Vehicle Detail

The name Dodge Polara first appeared in 1960 and was used on Dodge's full-size vehicle. When introduced, the Dodge Polara's design was similar to vehicles of the prior years, continuing the 'Forward Look' design of Virgil Exner. In the front was a small grille accompanied by a large front bumper. In the rear were taillights termed 'jet pods'. The lights were larger than what they needed to be with part of their purpose to aid in the futuristic look of the vehicle. Tail fins were part of the ensemble. There were to tail lights with the lower light built into the rear bumper. Chrome and trim were used extensively on the vehicles exterior. On the interior the vehicle was adorned in plush fabrics, appropriate since this was Dodge's near top-of-the-line vehicle. For 1962, the Polara was moved to a smaller wheelbase of 116 inches and the bodies followed suit, becoming smaller, lighter, and more sculpted. In 1963, the wheelbase was given an extra 3 inches for a total of 119 inches. In addition to the extra length, new sheet metal was added. Like the 1962 models, V-8 motors were offered in displacements of up to 413 cubic inches. The example offered here is one of those V-8 examples coupled with the Torque-Flite push-button automatic transmission. It was treated some time ago to a cosmetic restoration which has held up quite well. It appears that the backs of the front seats have been recovered and other than that the entire interior appears to be original and has held up amazingly well. An AM All Transistor Radio is mounted in the padded dash, and the gauge cluster is exceptionally nice, with just under 63,500 miles showing on the odometer. The top was replaced at some point and is still presentable although there is some slight damage showing from the top mechanism and the rear window has yellowed somewhat but could probably cleaned up and used as is. The parade boot is also still with the car and looks very presentable. The hydraulics and electrical components of the top mechanism also work very well. This car is a turnkey starter with regular use. The motor runs well and the rest of the mechanical components are ready, willing and able. The engine bay is original and functional and the trunk is original from new and has a full spare, jack and original instructions still stuck to the trunk lid. The car was repainted in the original white color. Close inspection will reveal a few blemishes throughout including rub-through, light scratches and evident use of body filler on the passenger side door and rear wheelwells. However, at a glance or on the road these items are negligible. The chrome and stainless are original. The stainless has some light scratching which could be easily polished out with the exception of the drivers’ side headlight ring which could probably be replaced, and the chrome is beginning to show rub-through and some crazing but a little elbow grease would make it presentable for a driver. This car has been owned by and stored by the museum for the last eight years. With a little bit of fine tuning easily accomplished at home in the garage, this 1963 Dodge Polara Convertible will make an excellent starter car and take part in the creation of a lifetime of memories. This vehicle is sold on a current Alabama registration. Alabama is a non-title state. Please ask any questions PRIOR to bidding. Thank you for viewing and good luck!On Apr-13-10 at 18:59:51 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: This motor is a 318" poly, not a 383" as noted in our response to a previous question. Thanks!
