Vehicle Detail

· General: Solid car with recent restoration. Engine bay and trunk areas are painted the exterior color of the car. Factory A/C ca has been eliminated.. I’ve tried to describe the car as accurately and objectively as possible and have links to many high-res pictures documenting various aspects of the car’s condition and recent interior rehab which I think illustrate how solid this car is. It’s not often you can see the underside of the car where it was painted with the same quality as the top side. · Mechanicals: Engine: Not the original engine but one that has been proven to be reliable and does not leak oil. Runs quiet and well. Transmission: 4-Spd... Shifts well. Rear Diff.: Standard 3.45: 1 (non LS) Exhaust: Solid and intact. Upgrades:9-blade fan and higher capacity radiator Optima New Battery (2009) Twin Weber’s were installed in place of the Zeniths. · Mileage: 173,000 but the odometer has been changed and this mileage is not correct. I do have the gasoline log documenting the first 100,000 miles. · Exterior: Dark Blue Metallic paint in very good condition. Bare metal restoration re-spray started in 2006 , completed in 2008. Bumpers: Pre-‘73/Euro bumpers. (have the Brightwork: None missing and is in new or very good condition waist trim has been replaced. Tires: Correct tire size 205/70/14 with excellent tread. Wheels: Original 14” Type in good condition with car color on inside surfaces Weather-stripping: All rubber on car has been replaced. Rockers: Both inside and outer rockers have been replaced Windows: No chips/cracks, all windows operational · Interior: Wood: Refinished (2007) Seats: Front and rear seats that were re-done in White leather that was completed in 2006) Dash Board: Very good condition, one crack that just developed recently Headliner: New but needs to be reworked to make it perfect. . Other. The stereo is a pioneer and a recent model purchased in 2009 and is very tastefully installed. · Issues: I need to install the armrests and will do that before the car is sold (I did not like the color match previously. Needs the head rests. I had them dyed and when I went to pick them up, I was not satisfied with the quality of work and would not accept them. The seatbelts are not installed either because I wanted better quality or would not use the original ones. Originals can be installed 1970 BMW 2800 CS Coupe VIN#2270196 The car is Not a concourse car, but very close to one. The restoration started out to be concourse but several compromises were later taken because of the lack of quality craftsmen in my area to do the high quality work, but it is currently a garage queen with very few visible flaws. The car has participated in several vintage shows and always draws positive attention and won several awards from judges that know that this is a rare car. The CS Registry states that there were less than 500 cars of this year imported in the US with a possibility of 200 in existence. When I wrote this, there were 19, 1970 cars registered with the CS Registry. None were ever built with a white interior. The deep Blue Metallic is a Jaguar color that took a while for me to settle on before choosing, the original color was Sahara. This was to be my Penn State car. The Metallic blue exterior is in new condition (2006 bare-metal re-spray). The interior is also in new condition with new carpet, refinished wood and reupholstered seats (white with blue cord piping) and new door panels. Power windows work as they should. Non-sunroof car (desirable if you don’t want rust). Tires are correct 195/60/14 with less than 2,000 miles and excellent tread. Very smooth running mechanicals with dual Weber’s (water chokes). I have hundreds of photos documenting the car’s restoration at various stages and will go with the car. I have the original bill-of-sale and a gas log with every fill-up and the location of that fill-up. Included with the sale is a pile of repair orders paid for by the original owner that were done in California. The chain of ownership is well documented. I am the second titled owner. As another person looking to sell his car said “Most importantly, the car has virtually no rust. Notice I said “virtually” because anyone that tells you a coupe has “no” rust doesn’t know where it is, is lying or has just completed a rotisserie restoration”. This car has had the rotisserie work done to it as shown in the pictures. The body of this car is very solid and the important areas (A-Pillar, rockers, door sills, floor pans, shock mounts, trailing arm mounts etc) are in excellent shape. I repaired a small amount of rust in the spare tire well and pin-hole rust in the driver’s front floor pan. All suspected areas have been replaced and properly re-installed. The other rust-prone areas were all documented to be very clean during the interior restoration (firewall area ahead of glove box, rear floors underneath rear seats, hand holes for headlamps and front valance/nose, as well as front/rear window frames). The seams between the fenders and the front fender wells had some rust sprouting beneath the original sound deadening material; all the sound deadening material has been removed, inspected, repaired if necessary and re-installed. (Verification shown in pictures) this is a rust free car that took 1 ½ years to prep and paint. Aside from the photos, you should see the car in person; you would not be disappointed in the appearance of this car. The many many photos help illustrate my description, but you can’t buy an E9 coupe without looking at it in person, or paying a professional for a PPI, so your inspections are welcome. The car is very mechanically sound and cruises easily at 75mph at 3,600rpm. The motor retains much of its originality, but as was customary the Zeniths were replaced with twin Weber’s, the fan blade was upgraded to a 9-blade unit and radiator was upgraded to a higher capacity (thicker core). All typical period-correct upgrades for this car. The battery was moved to the trunk to make the engine compartment look better. Shocks and struts are in excellent shape/tight and many of the suspension bushings/mounts have been replaced. Chrome on the bumpers is in very good like new condition with no pitting. Any and all mechanical work on this car was done by a professional BMW mechanic only. The interior was restored before the car was finished (2007) with new carpet and re-veneered mahogany wood. Re-veneering the wood is very time-consuming and costly, but the result obviously well worth the effort (see photos). In addition to the new wood and carpet, the entire interior was restored. The front seats were reupholstered using white leather with blue cord piping. The rear seats are also the matching leather. Headliner is new with no rips or tears. The Nardi wood steering wheel was also refinished. The power windows were also restored. Wires upgraded, motors/brushes cleaned and plastic guides/channels cleaned and re-lubricated. What is incorrect, broken or otherwise inoperable: The headliner is not up to my standards and would need some work, but not much. Both windshield washer spray heads are not installed. This car has not ever seen rain let alone snow and there is no need for these. I have them if the new owner wants to install. I have an extra set of rims for the car that are BBS basket weave knock-offs that will go with the car. Because of the excessive chrome on this version, I have not decided which rims that I really wanted on this car. This is the reason for the extra rims. There is a spare tire. There is a complete tool kit and the trunk area is painted the same color as the car. A lot has been invested into this car, both time and monies. It was to be my show car and not a daily driver. It is inspected and is driven less than a 1,000 miles per year, mostly around town and to car shows. It is not babied, but driven aggressively by only myself. I love to hear it roar. I am selling it due to health reasons and I would not be able to enjoy it as much as someone else would. The reserve is about a little more half of what the car has been appraised for. Good luck in bidding I would not be afraid to drive this car to whomever purchases this car, no matter where he is located (even across the country). Of course I would need to be compensated for that task, but I am that confident in this car. ***I've tried to comprehensively explain this car, but feel free to ask any intelligent questions through eBay and I'll do my best to respond ASAP. *** On May-03-10 at 04:30:48 PDT, seller added the following information:Reserve Has Been Met
