Vehicle Detail
2000 Honda Insight I’m the third owner of this vehicle, which I bought in January of 2008 from a High School Principal in Palm Desert, CA. The car has 103,500 actual miles and it is in very good condition; showing minimal wear and tear. There are a couple of areas in particular which show more wear than the rest of the car, these are identified further below (see photos for specifics). This vehicle has ALWAYS been in the South West and has never seen snow since it's production and first sale. I have always had this vehicle serviced at Honda of Superstition Springs in Mesa, AZ. All required maintenance schedules have been performed along with updates/recalls identified by Honda. I have most receipts, but all records are on file with Honda and available to all Honda dealerships nationwide. Options/Accessories/Maintenance include: The car has a clean Car-Fax report - you can run the VIN yourself or I’ll send you the Car-Fax that I have from a few months ago. New IMA battery April 2010, with 36 month/36,000 mile warranty from Honda. 5 speed manual transmission - produces better mpg ratings than the CVS Auto. Air conditioning with climate control features • Power steering (electric) • Power windows • AM/FM/Cassette Stereo • Intermittent wipers Rear wiper • Rear window defogger. This particular Insight has the very rare full factory mats which include the hatch area. I've not seen another one advertised with this option. New brakes approximately 1,500 miles ago - rotors and drums were turned as well. New tires 20,000 miles ago - these are the factory recommended Bridgestone tires which originally came on the car and are rated at 80,000 miles. They show very little wear right now. The paint is in very good/original condition, no dull spots and with minimal rock/door dings. The driver's mirror was scraped when I bought the car, see photo, as well as the back bumper having a small gouge in it just to the left of the license plate which was also there when I bought the car, see photo. Carpeting has minimal wear on drivers side and excellent condition on passenger side. The passenger seat looks like new, is clean and free of visible wear. The driver’s seat shows some wear along the entry edge of the seat back from entering/exiting the car. There are no cracks or wear marks on the dash, doors, console, headliner or hatch area. Engine compartment is clean and free of oil and grease. The car has no warning lights on at this time and there are no oil, anti-freeze, transmission, washer fluid leaks of any kind. I have replaced the power steering unit control module. I have changed the oil faithfully (through the dealership) using only honda synthetic oil as recommended. It will be due for the next scheduled maintenance at 105,000 miles. If I was going to keep the car, I would probably replace the shocks and struts - neither of which are leaking at this time but I believe they are the original equipment on the vehicle. My actual fuel economy is an average of 61.5 mpg - two year overall average since I have owned the car. The car will average 68 - 72 mpg without the A/C on, 58 - 65 with the A/C on. This is “real life” mileage, not the estimated/fabricated stuff you see at the dealers or manufacturers. There is no other car produced today that can return this kind of mileage on a single gallon of gas. Believe it or not, when the air is on and you only average 58 or 59 mpg, you’re actually dissapointed in yourself that you weren't able to achieve more. You actually become that "into" driving this car. The only reason I am selling the car is because I have a bad back, which isn’t getting any better with my age. I’m pretty much regulated to my pickup truck these days because it’s easy to get in and out of. My wife enjoys driving the Insight, but she prefers an automatic. She is quick to tell everyone the fact that she can get two weeks worth of groceries in the back with no problem... which includes two 40lb bags of dog food for our three dogs. If you’re familiar with the Insight, then you know the basics of these cars: they ride a little rough, they are a little noisy, the factory Honda radio leaves a little bit to be desired. The simple fact is, you actually learn to drive these a little different than the average car to get the best mileage. And, the way you drive DOES make a big difference in the mileage you get. What I learned about driving this car has actually helped us to get better mileage out of the the other two vehicles we have. If this is the first time you’ll own an Insight and you would like to learn a little more about them, then email me and I’ll be happy to send you a pdf file I’ve compiled through all my research, which will tell you everything you want to know about them from Honda’s first sketch on a napkin to the type of plastic used in the fender skirts. If you have any questions about the car, you can reach me through email as well. I work nights and sleep days, so be patient. I will respond, but it may be at 2:00 AM when I do. It’s difficult for me to ascertain the true value of this car because they are selling for between $7,500 and $10,000 for similar year and mileage. A couple of factors involved are the price of gas and how many are available for sale (supply and demand). Right now, there are only a handful for sale throughout the entire country. People are keeping them due to the mileage and reliability of these commuters. Prices are really all over the place on these and it seems the higher gasoline goes, the more people want for these. Of the other Insights I’ve seen, both in person and on the internet, I can honestly say that this is an exceptionally nice one, I've not seen one yet that is as nice or well taken care of. If you’ve been looking for one that is truly in good shape and has been properly maintained, then this is the one you’re looking for. Now, it is used and I’m not going to tell you it’s flawless. However, for the age and mileage I question if one could be found as nice. No hype, just the truth. So I’ve set a “Buy It Now” price at $7,500 and the reserve at a more than fair figure as well. I do want to sell it, otherwise I’d advertise it for $10,000 and wait for the right buyer to come along. At $7,500 it's still a great bargain and since these can be found with over 200,000 miles on them simply reminds you that... it is a Honda! Good luck with your bids, this will make someone a very nice car and save you a lot of $$$ at the fuel pumps. Thanks for looking and for bidding. Please DO NOT click the "ask seller a question" link, as I will NOT have access to that email. Please refer all questions to davidbeck9@cox.net.
