Vehicle Detail
This Auction is for TWO 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Veloce Spiders (101.18) - a complete car for restoration (AR#390255) and the remains of # 3390245 for parts. According to Alfa Romeo's "Centro Documentazione", Ch# 390255 was manufactured on August 4th, 1964 and # 390245 on August 5th, 1964.. Both cars were sold to Alfa USA on September 18, 1964. The parts car has been becoming one with the earth for several decades and is NOT restorable - it is a partial body shell with hood, windshield, instruments and some other components still present. Most mechanical parts are gone. If you wanted to take the whole thing, you would have to dig it out of the ground, so I'd suggest removing what you want and leaving the remains. Please look at the photos. The restorable car is very complete and original. The original engine is retained ( AR00121* 01757) With the exception of the engine, it will need an COMPLETE restoration. Please do not bid on this car unless you are willing to take on such a project. I am selling both cars for my friend and former business partner. Here are the pertinent details. He purchased the car from a Cornell student in the spring of 1974 and used it as a daily driver until later that year when a rod- knock developed in the engine. He put it in his garage with every intention of undertaking repairs, but life and business intervened and it sat until the summer of 2008, when we pulled it out and brought it down to my shop. I have provided enough photos for you to get an idea of the extent of repairs needed. Major metal work will need to be done in the floors and rocker panel areas. I have the original seats, although while the car was in storage the raccoons seemed to have taken a liking to the seat foam. The original top and frame are present. The only missing component that we know of is the exhaust header. During the winter of '08 / '09 I undertook a complete rebuilding of the engine and carbs. The original veloce cams and connecting rods were reused. Bearings, valves, guides, pistons and liners were all replaced. The resulting compression ratio is 9.7:1. The original distributor and generator were rebuilt. The engine is complete and ready to run, right down to the ignition timing. In a nutshell, this a rare Alfa that is worth restoring, but it will take time, talent and money to do it properly. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have - I'd much prefer talking on the phone than email exchanges. You may reach me during business hours (EDT) at: 607 273-9262 or evenings and weekends at 607 279-5153. Arrangements can be made if you would like to inspect the cars. I hope it is obvious to all that the last three photos posted are of the parts car. Good luck and thanks for looking.
