Vehicle Detail

This auction is for my 1971 Dodge Dart Custom. I am moving to California and will have no garage space for this car, so, sadly, I must sell it. I only have a few weeks before the move, so I don't have time to return the car to complete drivable, working order before the sale, and I have tried to adjust the price to match. I have set a reserve for this auction, but it is much lower than the BuyItNow price (which is the amount I would ideally love to get for this car). I need to ensure it doesn't sell for 25 dollars (or some similar slip) as I have a very important plan for the income! This car has been in storage for a couple of years (after having to abandon work on it mid-project due to lack of time). When I first got it, it was my daily driver, and it runs like a tank! But eventually it had to be retired for something that didn't require as much upkeep (it's over thirty years old, after all!). The car turns over like I parked it yesterday, but be warned, it's not road-ready!! Do not (I repeat, DO NOT) expect this car to be driven home! It is in dire need of break overhaul and doesn't have enough stopping power to be safe right now, additionally, the steering column coupler is not mated properly to the shaft, which isn't safe (though I did drive it to its current location like this) and one of the transmission fluid cooling lines is disconnected from the base of the radiator (it's been a while since I worked on it, and I'm not sure if memory serves, but this may actually be due to a brass fitting that torqued off in the radiator base, otherwise I don't think I would have left it disconnected). So, please plan to TRANSPORT this car to your location! So it needs some work, but the frame is straight, it's got the original 318 V-8 under the hood, the rear quarter panels are rusting slightly in traditional fashion (as seen in the photos), but not badly, and overall this car is very clean. The passenger-side rear quarter panel is also slightly scratched from the grazing that caused the original owner (a little old woman) to have her license revoked by her children, and the car stored in a barn for many years. The rear upholstery has some sun damage near the window and has begun splitting slowly, as noted by the photo. Also, the trunk lock was popped off when I parked it in a public lot years ago (someone tried unsuccessfully to break in, I guess) but I have a replacement in a box, it just needs to be installed. Also, the previous owner had a break-in where they attempted to steal the radio, which bent up the surrounding dash pretty badly, as seen in the picture. I had a stereo installed in the car until I started work on the dash cluster, and the condition of the surrounding metal didn't hinder installation at all, it just doesn't look nice and isn't ideal for a completely clean vehicle. The car was very dusty when I pulled it out of the garage. I rinsed it off quickly before these photos were taken, but please keep that in mind. The paint is actually in very good shape. It is just in need of some detailing and waxing, which I may have time to do before pickup. Again, work on it was halted a few years ago as I was doing general cleanup in preparation for a rebuild and overhaul. I was not planning on restoring the car, since I was the third owner, and parts had already been replaced that made it difficult to do (the odometer and gauge cluster are not the original, for instance, and the mileage I have noted in this auction is, to the best of my knowledge, the real mileage. According to the previous owner who replaced the gauge cluster, the new odometer reads 20K less than the real mileage) The only thing that I actually refitted, though, was the exhaust (I replaced the stock exhaust, which had rusted out and was the reason I had stopped driving it, with dual exhaust and glass packs). I replaced a number of parts that were failing or about to fail (thermostat, water pump, rebuilt the carb, rebuilt the power steering pump, etc.) but didn't get to the bigger tasks like upgrading the carb and manifold, etc. (so it's got dual exhaust with a 2-barrel carb right now, which I admit is completely ridiculous). However, any trim pieces that were removed are with the car in boxes, as is the case with the fan shroud (I replaced the radiator with an aftermarket replacement, and the original fan shroud no longer fit, but it's currently in the trunk). I was in the process of beginning to fix some interior items, so the a/c control cluster has been pulled from the dash, and a number of the internal wiring harnesses are exposed and hanging around for various reasons, as you can see in the pictures. Because the car isn't in perfect shape, if possible I would love to show it to interested buyers, so please feel free to message me for my contact information. The car is titled in PA, but currently located in NJ. (I live in Philadelphia). I love this car, and I am excited to give it to a good home where it can be worked on and appreciated instead of sitting in a garage. Please contact me with any questions. Buyer should plan to arrange for transportation of the vehicle from Stockton, NJ. It can be moved around for loading onto a truck or trailer, it just isn't safe for distances of any real kind. Happy bidding!
