Vehicle Detail

You are viewing an auction for a 2001 BMW 530i Sedan. Priced to sell, with no reserve. NOTE: there's a YouTube Video of this car on the road, referenced below. This is the upgraded version of the 530i, with the winter and sport packages. So, the front has heated seats, and the front seats have powered thigh supports. Provenance:I purchased this car in 2003, and have owned it ever since. I have clear title, in hand. Details about the BMW 530i E39:The E39 is the fourth generation of the BMW 5 Series. It was sold from 1995 to 2003. It was the first 5 Series to use aluminium components in the front suspension, and the first to use rack and pinion steering in the 5 Series. The car was a tremendous success; in fact, it was considered the best car ever featured on Top Gear by Clarkson, Hammond and May. And here is what Honest John Classics has to say about this vehicle:It was, so many people said, 'the best car in the world.' And who are we to argue? At the time, this German saloon was king of the road - a status that's reflected in its rising values today. BMW built on the reputation of the E39's predecessor to carve out a car that was fast, reliable and good looking. The looks were a key part of its charm. Designed before Chris Bangle's flame surface styling set the tone for the premium saloons of the 2000s, the 3- 5- and 7-series were basically the same shape... just in different sizes. It wasn't just the outside that looked great - the inside was incredibly comfortable. All instruments were clear and easy to read, while controls fell easily to hand. Even today, the inside of an E39 is a great place to be.And then there was the handling. With BMW's near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution, the car was an absolute joy from start to finish. It didn't matter if you wanted to drop the kids of at school, notch up the miles on the motorway, or attack the apex on-track - the E39 could do it all.VIDEO of this car driving down the road, shifting through the gears, is on YouTube. You can travel with us as we drive through town (it's also fine on the freeway). All the gears work, the shifting is smooth, the turn indicators click on and off, and it's nice and quiet inside! Cut and paste the link address --> Link: https://youtu.be/DC6JLSM7EN8 Or Search YouTube: "January 2019: FOR SALE, BMW 530i" and you will find it. Maintenance: This BMW E39 has been carefully maintained at our local dealership, BMW of Champaign, in Savoy, Illinois since its acquisition. Everything has been serviced/replaced as appropriate, and as recommended by my personal technician who has looked after this car (this tech also owns an E39 -- it's been a match made in heaven). If you would like to speak with the dealership about the service history, please let me know. Parts have been replaced with OEM parts when needed. Condition:As noted above, this car looks good and runs well. No rust! No accidents! Please review the pictures; if this is the model you want, and you prefer a manual transmission (such fun!), consider this car. Engine: Original M 54 engine. I have been careful in the maintenance of this car, and am now reaping the benefits. Runs smoothly, just hums along quietly. Listen to the absence of engine noise in the video. This classic six-cylinder engine is one of their best. Minimal oil usage. Exterior:I have removed the original sub-spoiler, as it was constantly getting racked up on everything. You won't miss it, and the car looks good without it.There are some dings from car doors in parking lots, and the front hood shows some stone chip damage. The worst scratches are in the paint on the back (pictured close up). The window and door trim is generally good if aged (as this car has been garaged). There's a hole in the back bumper the size of a pencil eraserhead from a bad reversing moment, and a some minor scrapes. These are largely inconspicuous. I have not tried to buff them out. The the paint is original, and in great condition. And the metallic "blue shark" color is very nice. Tires:Tires are relatively new. I've shown a front and a rear tire so that you can see the wear. Interior:The interior is original. I did add a non-OEM supplemental cup holder (see picture of interior, and driving video). However, beneath that is an original, unused OEM cup holder. (The original cup holders on this model folds out, and is flimsy. I preferred something more stable.)All dash lights are functional; one of the crystals is missing from the rear defroster button. It hardly shows and does not matter, because the button light still lights. The radio controls and CD controls work, and play well. The speakers in this vehicle are very good-- they were an optional upgrade. The leather is original. The back seat leather looks good, including the fold-down armrest. There's some creasing and scratching in the front seat leather. Please take a look. The leather on the doors is good. The leather-clad steering wheel is good. The car has nice wood trim on the dash and doors, and all the trim pieces are in place. Some of the trim's clear coating is cracked, and the wooden shift lever's clear coating is cracked. All of this feels smooth to the touch, however, and the pieces remain in place. I have cleaned this car to the best of my ability, but I don't have the tools to do a perfect job. The carpeting on the sides of the seats, and in the door pockets, needs to be properly shampooed. Overall, given its age, this car is in very nice condition. It looks good and runs well. It is now tucked away in my garage, and will be kept there until the new owner comes for it. Transaction Details:A non-refundable deposit of $350 within 24 hours of the close of this auction will hold this car until pick up.I expect discussions about vehicle pick-up arrangements to commence within 48 hours of close of auction, and pick up should be completed within a week from the auction's close. Payment, less the deposit, should be made at pick up, and title will be transferred at that time. This car is garaged in Champaign, Illinois (two hours south of Chicago, two hours west of Indianapolis, three hours north of St. Louis). Thank you for viewing this auction; have a great day.
