Complete, beautifully running and driving vehicle that has been well maintained over the years but was cursed with rust from living its life in Chicago-land. This anniversary model was the Indy Pace Car for 1983. Has special 140 mph speedometer. The touring T-type suspension makes it handle like it's on rails. Very impressive ! Sway bar bushings have been replaced and heavy duty KYB shocks installed. Rebuilt carburetor makes the engine run smooth as silk, extremely responsive and starts in any weather. Really does run and great always starts I have ONLY used mobil-1 synthetic oil. Engine does not make any lifter noise or smoke. Uses NO oil . Has a new air conditioning compressor converted to R134a. Heater works GREAT, very quick warm-up! I have owned this car over 12 years and have replaced many engine compartment components. Headliner has been professionally replaced by a well known custom upholsterer (Riggs Bros).--no sagging--- color is correct. (cant be told from factory installation!) they also Installed 4 high-end speakers in factory locations. A later model, exact fit, factory GM radio/cassette has been installed in place of the original). sound is good. Power antennae works, as well as all power options--windows, locks, both seats, cruise, ALL WORK. 4 speed (w/Overdrive) Transmission shifts fine. It has NO collision damage only a slight bump in fender and 1 in bumper. The interior is the best part. Inside, the pigskin suede and glove-soft leather are still in decent condition and are beautifully contrasting shades of brown. Driver seat shows better than normal wear, including one small split on side at the top of the drivers seat. Seat back storage pouches are 100% leather with natural texture suede inside the elastic part. Seating surfaces are original clean and have no rips or cuts, seams are all intact and nice. Dash board and door trim are real burled walnut wood and door panels are covered in real leather with real stitching. Carpet is a dense pile, German wool in very good condition. Special XX trunk trim and carpet is Same as interior, is gorgeous, and is in excellent condition, with no stains or spots. Underside of trunk lid has a embroidered, real leather XX logo emblazoned in a center oval. I just installed a NEW, Interstate, top of the line, High capacity, Dual Post, battery which cost me $208. The down side is the rust. Bottom moldings have come off and there are a few rust-through holes present around the wheel wells. The gas tank has a leak at the seam and leaks when filled past half full (about 10 gallons). If you dont fill past 1/2 way , it doesnt leak! The windshield seal has deteriorated, resulting in the glass separating at the top,needs resetting. Plastic bumper fillers have cracked and fallen off, as is common with all rivieras of this era. Continental 225x70-15 Tires are showing wear (not bald) and should probably be replaced soon. The special spoke pattern WIRE wheels are REAL (unique to the XX package) but rusty. They do hold air (no leaks) as they should, ( I have only added air every couple years). I installed air lift rear spring inserts for height adjust ability . I have replaced the exhaust system twice during my 12 year ownership but it has now developed an exhaust leak at the crossover Y pipe (ticking under acceleration)). Rest of system still good I have taken pictures showing the rust and have tried to accurately describe the condition. The car has age related issues but is nearly 100% complete and would make a great parts car or inexpensive beater. If you are looking for a Riviera parts car, XX or not , this is a great one to get as you can drive it away and use it for how ever long as you like . I have actually had people make positive comments about the look of the unique color and trim (not the rust!).... (All outside trim is brown!) Overall, the car runs strong and smooth, but cosmetically leaves a bit to be desired. all special XX body and interior trim are present including the 24K gold plated INDY 500 Pace Car glove box badge. (no hood ornament). If you are unfamiliar with the XX package, please google it so see why this is truly a "special" edition, and not just some color option. Car is your responsibility to pickup.
