Vehicle Detail
Car is being offered with free delivery and a free rear seat delete kit. For details and conditions, see the terms of the offers at the end of the listing. This auction is for a 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth finished in Nero Black Metallic with the Nero interior. If you are already familiar with Fiat 500s in general and the Abarth specifically, you may want to skip over the next few paragraphs that give a comprehensive and detailed overview of the car, and go straight to the pictures and description. And it’s best to view the listing on a desktop or laptop computer. A smart phone won’t give you the same details. I sold this car back in May of this year. The purchaser recently bought a larger vehicle and offered to sell the Fiat back to me and I accepted. Some of the details and photos are from this spring but it has only been driven 2,000 miles since then and has been garage kept during that time. The car is in the same condition except the silver pinstripes have been removed and it has a 5/2019 Virginia state inspection sticker. The Abarth is powered by a 160 horsepower 1.4 liter turbocharged and intercooled OHC 16-valve 4 cylinder MultiAir® engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output, excellent economy and inherent smoothness. This engine features a cast iron engine block for maximum durability with an aluminum bedplate for increased support of the crankshaft and reduced NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). That crank is forged steel as are the special lightweight connecting rods. Full floating pistons have hard anodized piston ring lands with oil cooling jets spraying the underside. An aluminum cylinder head is used for light weight and maximum heat dissipation and is the core of the engine’s MultiAir® technology. The 16-valve head started off as a twin cam design, but in MultiAir® form, the intake cam is tossed in favor of electro-hydraulic valve actuation. MultiAir® operates directly on the intake valves and is best described as variable valve timing on steroids. Intake valve opening and lift can be infinitely varied, stroke by stroke, cylinder by cylinder resulting in significant gains of horsepower, fuel economy and reduced emissions. MultiAir® engine technology allows control of intake air directly by the engine's intake valves, and eliminates a major inefficiency inherent to all gasoline engines: pumping losses caused by restriction of the intake passage by the throttle plate used to regulate air entering the cylinders. Developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies with guidance from Maserati engineers, MultiAir® can increase power by 10% and torque by 15% over conventional engines, as well as improve fuel economy up to 10%. Emissions are also reduced significantly as the engine burns fuel more completely. MultiAir® is similar to BMW’s Valvetronic technology but Fiat simplified the design by using a hydraulically activated system allowing it to be used on lower priced vehicles. In 2010, the 1.4L MultiAir® engine was named the International Engine of the Year by a panel of automobile journalists from around the world. In conjunction with MultiAir®, there is a large Garrett GT1446 turbocharger fed by twin air to air intercoolers allowing a healthy 18 psi of boost, multiport fuel injection for excellent gas mileage and coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions. What that turbo packs in, a free flowing mufflerless twin outlet exhaust lets out. Few street legal cars come from the factory without a muffler (actually, I can’t think of another one) but the Abarth is one of them. Accelerating hard, the sound is bold and in your face, sounding both brutal and satisfying, and when lifting off the accelerator, the occasional popping backfire noise from the exhaust is just as rich. When combined with the intoxicating sound of the turbo spooling up, the distinctive rasp is unlike any other car you’ll hear, short of a 12 cylinder Ferrari or an uncorked track car. When driving with the windows up, the sound is subdued inside, but you won’t do that too often because this car makes you want to play those sounds again and again and again. Even when it’s thirty degrees out, you will want to drive with the windows down. To quote a British phrase, It can turn you into quite a hooligan. The engine is mated to a heavy duty C510 5-speed manual transmission with Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and traction control along with an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) program and SPORT mode. This transmission has a higher torque capacity than the C514 model used in other Fiat 500 models and the Abarth shifter is smoother and more precise than in the regular 500 models. It has a low first gear that provides brisk acceleration from a stop, while the overdrive 5th gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent fuel economy. When driven with restraint, and in concert with MultiAir® technology, you can average over 40 mpg on the highway. Hill Start Assist keeps the car from rolling backwards when starting off from an incline by keeping the brakes applied until you let the clutch out. The traction control system lets you drive through snow and ice covered roads almost as confidently as a four-wheel drive car. It uses the components from the ABS system and electronic engine controls to regulate engine torque to enhance traction with wheel slip of one tire of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to that wheel, causing torque to be sent to the wheel with the most traction. ESC enhances directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement. ESC can be switched off for those times when you intentionally want to have some fun. Even with all the power available, torque steer is not an issue, as equal length axleshafts are used. They are 23 percent larger than on base Fiat 500s and the CV joints have 50 percent greater torsional strength. SPORT mode increases throttle pedal-to-engine response, removes a torque limiter and adjusts steering feel for a more spirited driving experience. Hit the “Sport” button and you get the full 170 lbs-ft of torque from 2,600 rpm 4,100 rpm. The power is addicting. You’ll want to just roll on the gas every chance you get to feel the torque pull and pull. If you have an RV and tow a car behind it, Fiat 500s can be flat towed at any legal highway speed, for any distance with the manual transmission in neutral. Rounding out the Fiat 500 Abarth are suspension, steering and brakes designed to give precise control and safe stopping. Start off with a rigid chassis and unit body construction for a stiff foundation and add in a MacPherson strut front suspension with stabilizer bar and a coil spring setup in the rear with a stabilizer bar. Add rack and pinion electric power steering and low profile performance tires for precise handling. A 15.1:1 steering ratio is 10 percent quicker than standard Fiat 500s. For secure braking there are 4 wheel discs with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) for maximum control in all road conditions and a Brake Assist System (BAS) applies optimum pressure to the brakes during emergency braking situations. The Abarth has larger ventilated front brake rotors than the other 500’s and has passed the grueling SRT brake standards for fade, pedal feel and performance, while red painted calipers add a touch of Italian flair. Also, the Fiat 500 has all the latest safety systems including seven airbags. Advanced dual stage front airbags with passenger sensor, front seat side airbags, driver knee airbag and head curtain airbags. In addition, front seatbelt pretensioners and active head restraints further help prevent or reduce injuries during a collision. It goes without saying that the Fiat 500 Abarth is one of the most fun cars to drive in it’s class, and that it’s quicker, faster and handles better than many other pseudo-sports cars costing thousands more. With it’s light weight (about 2,500 pounds), short length (seven inches shorter than a Mini Cooper), and upright seating position with a short front overhang, this Fiat is about as close as you can get to a street legal go-cart. The modern Fiat 500’s styling is a re-creation of Fiat’s classic 1957 500 of which over 4 million were sold during it’s 18 year production run. Italian cars are known for their euro-chic style and the modern 500 version is no exception. From its sleek lines and clean curves incorporating elements from premium European sports cars, it looks handsome from any angle without being flashy. A quick walk around the car reveals how the Fiat 500 Abarth is one of the most stylish vehicles in the small hatchback class of automobiles. Start up front with a body colored bumper incorporating a lower air dam, a satin black honeycomb mesh lower grill design surrounding projector beam fog lights, and a smaller upper air intake below the ABARTH Scorpion emblem and a pair of chrome accent pieces surrounded by the clear lens projector beam headlights that aerodynamically blend into the body. Next, look at the short hood with its center character lines, and continue along the sides with clear lens fender mounted turn signal repeaters, chrome mirrors and door handles, ABARTH bodyside graphics, aerodynamic ground effects rocker molding and small ABARTH emblem on the quarter panel. Back from the hood, a steeply raked windshield meets the roof, and further back a shorty antenna at the rear adds another euro touch. A large roof mounted body color spoiler aids aerodynamic efficiency above a nearly vertical rear window. The rear hatch is surrounded but large taillights and has a chrome “500” lift handle below another ABARTH emblem. The rear body color bumper completes the monochromatic look and frames the rear diffuser panel with honeycomb center section and surrounds the twin polished stainless steel exhaust tips. Lastly, notice the easy to clean open design aluminum wheels with red trimmed ABARTH center caps which are some of the most stylish found on any small car today and easily show the factory red painted calipers behind them. The exterior is beautiful to look at, but if you like retro design combined with the latest high-tech, the interior design is handsome as well. Open the door and admire the cloth seat materials with a tight mesh weave style fabric in the seating positions and suede trim on the sides. Get in and sit down into a bucket seat that adjusts to the perfect driving position with settings for height adjustment and recline. Check out how comfortable the cushions feel and how the upright seating position combined with the short hood, gives you a commanding view of the road out from the windshield. Then adjust the racing style tilt leather wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel to achieve complete driving control. Notice how the thickly padded rim affords just the right grip and that the cruise control and Bluetooth switches are just a fingertip away. Next, look ahead at the instrument cluster with the large 160 mph speedometer and integrated tachometer, auxiliary turbo boost gauge and the retro body color dashboard. Now look down at the sport pedals with stainless steel trim, look right and left at the chrome trim on the inside door handles and surrounding the switches in the center console and dash. Lastly, notice the red stripe inlay in the seats and the classic Italian red stitching on the upholstery, instrument cluster cover, steering wheel, and shifter. Not only is the styling very handsome, but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the tight weave of the cloth upholstery, the graining pattern on the dash and door panels, or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash, everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive car. Finally, turn on the engine and feel how smooth it idles. Press the SPORT button in the dash and take it for a spin. Feel how light and easy the clutch is to operate and how precisely the transmission shifts through the gears. Notice how smoothly the MultiAir® engine accelerates even from low RPMs. Lastly, find a road with some curves to put the suspension through is paces. The steering when in SPORT mode feels nice and weighted, while the suspension is tight and hugs the road like a sports car should. A light step on the brakes scrubs off speed instantly and brings the car to a stop without drama. So whether on congested city streets, open highways, or twisting mountain roads, you will be amazed how smooth, quick and powerful this Fiat drives. More details on these mods are further down in the description. It has been lowered with a coilover suspension package containing progressive rate springs, adjustable front coilover struts and rear Bilstein shocks. The advantages of coilovers are the ability to change the car’s ride height by making a simple adjustment on the coilover itself, and the springs are matched to the strut and are designed to work together as a matched set. Lowering the car, besides giving it a more aggressive stance, significantly improves cornering grip such that highway entrance ramps that could be driven at 30 mph can done at 40 or 45 mph. The second mod is a rear seat delete kit. The advantages of this are a nearly 50 pound weight reduction of the vehicle which improves all performance parameters including handling, acceleration, braking and fuel economy. Also, the cargo room is significantly increased over just folding down the seatbacks. Another consideration if you have a teen driver, is that with the ability of having just one passenger, potential peer pressure induced reckless behavior is reduced significantly. The cost of these mods including installation of the suspension package was over $1,500. FRONT SUSPENSION: REAR SUSPENSION: REAR SEAT DELETE KIT: The car is in excellent condition inside and out. It has a super straight body with no significant dings and just a few minor touched-up nicks or scratches you would normally expect on a used car. The paint itself is beautiful and this Nero Black Metallic color just about glows in the sunlight. It has just been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish, topped off with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic Wax and then sealed with Meguiar’s Ultimate Fast Finish for a long lasting brilliant high gloss shine. Even both the front and also the backsides of the wheels have been cleaned and waxed! How obsessed is that? Ditto for the stainless steel exhaust tips. All the glass, moldings, trim and emblems are excellent. I checked the car out top to bottom and found no evidence that is was ever wrecked or that it even has had any previous paint or bodywork done to it. Remember, it’s hard enough to find a one or two year old or 30,000 mile vehicle that hasn’t had at least a fender-bender requiring a hood, fender or bumper to be replaced or repaired. The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no cracks, rips or tears or any significant signs of wear. The cargo area looks like it was hardly used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine runs strong and feels smooth at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range and it starts instantly whether hot or cold. The transmission shifts precisely at all speeds. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has a matching set of four new premium Hankook Ventus tires. These tires combine a high performance tread design, exceptional all-season wet/dry traction, extended comfort, excellent handling and superior tread life with a very long 500 treadwear rating. They have two steel belts for puncture resistance with hard rubber sidewall reinforcements for enhanced steering response and cornering stability. They have been balanced with balance weights mounted on the inside of the wheel for a super clean look. The car has been fully checked out and serviced with over $2,000 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original Fiat, Chrysler Mopar or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. Some of the items checked or serviced include: New Liqui Moly (made in Germany) Synthetic oil change New Mopar oil filter Recent STP air filter New Mahle cabin air filter New NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs Recent Ferodo front brake pads Recent front brake rotors Recent TRW rear brake pads Recent rear brake rotors New Valvoline Synthetic Dot 4 brake fluid flush and change New Fiat left drive axle (replaced under warranty) New set of four Hankook tires Photos of some of the parts replaced and service done: Oil change: Oil filter: Air filter: Cabin air filter: Spark plugs: Turbo very clean: Front brake pads: Front brake rotors, 22mm new 20mm minimum: Front brakes: Rear brake pads: Rear brake rotors, 11mm new 9.2mm minimum: Rear brakes: Brake fluid flush and change: The Fiat 500 is a low maintenance vehicle having extended service intervals for many systems. The cooling system needs a coolant change only every 10 years or 150,000 miles. The timing belt needs to be replaced at 15 years or 150,000 miles. There are no valve adjustment requirements or transmission fluid changes. Except for oil and filter changes, with the above servicing the car has just had, it will be a long time before it needs any major maintenance work. Not only is the Fiat 500 economical to maintain, the Abarth is also economical to drive. The Fiat 500 Abarth achieves the highest fuel economy ratings of any performance car sold in the US with an EPA city rating of 28 mpg, 34 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined. And those numbers are obtained in a lab under simulated driving conditions. You can do a bit better with just a minor adjustment to your driving style with some drivers topping 40 mpg on the highway with ease. Overall this is a super sharp car that looks absolutely fantastic in this Nero Black color. The cost new of this Abarth was $22,700 CLICK HERE to see the price new, but because it was a hot model, most dealers were adding additional market adjustment markups (read rip off), so with tax, title and tags, you were lucky if you got ANY change back from your $25,000 bill! And that doesn’t take into account the value of the mods installed. It’s a southern car from Maryland and Virginia which probably explains why it’s so clean. CLICK HERE to see the original owner’s title and CLICK HERE to see the current title. Plus it has a clean and clear Carfax. CLICK HERE to see the Carfax I got the first time I had the car. If you are serious about buying a Fiat 500 Abarth, this is about as low as they go with such low mileage, no paintwork and very clean condition overall. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this car you won’t have to spend $1,000 or more on paint or bodywork to fix torn bumpers or a dented panel, you won’t have to spend $500 for a new set of tires, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a tune-up and filters service, and you won’t have to spend $300 on any upcoming scheduled maintenance. With many of the other listings on Ebay, Craigslist or on dealers lots, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery. Also, if you are looking at other 500s, make sure they come with both remote keys, as a replacement with programming will run near $300. And if you lose your only key, it may cost three times that much to replace the immobilizer unit. The car comes with the books: Two switchblade remote keys: And embroidered ABARTH logo carpeted factory floor mats: The Fiat 500 was first sold in the USA in 2012 but has been available in Europe and the rest of the world since 2007, earning a reputation for quality and reliability after countless billions of miles on the road. Over 1.5 million have been sold worldwide as of 2015, and in 2013 it became the best selling car in it’s class in Europe. It has received 140 awards worldwide including Car of the Year numerous times. This 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth is virtually identical to the new models. What that means is you can own a car with the style and prestige of a brand new model Abarth, at a fraction of the cost. If you are looking for a nice low mileage Fiat 500 Abarth in great condition at a good price, then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private.” Also, because my reserve is close to the Buy It Now price, don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B.I.N., especially if you need it delivered. TERMS OF THE AUCTION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Since this car may be advertised locally, auction can be canceled at any time (unless auction ended early with BUY IT NOW) due to prior sale without liability to any bidder. A down payment of $500 (plus any additional delivery charge) is required within 3 days of the close of the auction, balance due in cash on delivery or certified funds on delivery if I deliver it or you pick it up, or before it’s dropped off at the transporter if a shipping company is transporting it, but no later than 7 days after the close of the auction without prior agreement. I accept bank or certified checks, money orders, credit cards through PayPal (accepted for down payment only). If paying balance with funds other than cash, buyer to fax copy of monetary instrument no less than 24 hours before picking up vehicle. The car is sold as is although it still has the factory corrosion warranty and emissions warranty still in effect. CLICK HERE to see the details in the warranty book. Buyer is welcome to inspect car BEFORE the end of the auction or to have someone check it out on your behalf provided you authorize whoever is checking the vehicle to provide me with a copy of the results. I have tried to accurately describe this car, both mechanically and cosmetically but you can expect a certain amount of minor flaws on ANY used car including squeaks, rattles, drips, nicks, chips, scratches, blemishes and any other marks that are consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections, however, I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description. Also remember that a car is made up of thousands of mechanical parts and components and in an older or higher mileage used car a part that is working fine now may go bad the next day, in a week, or a month from now. It’s nearly impossible to tell when a particular part or component will fail as most don’t exhibit prior symptoms, however, proper preventative maintenance as this vehicle has received, can prevent most problems or breakdowns from happening. In fairness to all bidders the reserve price will not be disclosed so please don’t even ask. Buyer responsible for transportation and car must be paid for in full before it can be released. May deliver. Email or call for delivery quote or for any other questions. atikovi@email.com Maryland and District of Columbia dealer. Phone 202-246-5201. Please do not bid if you don’t intend to buy. FREE DELIVERY TERMS: Free delivery within 500 miles of the Washington DC area if bidder purchases car with Buy It Now. (35 cents per mile for additional miles as shown in MapQuest.com from zip code 20001 to your address.) That is still the same rate as when I started on Ebay 18 years ago. Remember, the Buy It Now option disappears once the reserve price is met. The Buy It Now price is $9,295.
