Vehicle Detail
I bought it a year ago from the original owner, a fellow in his late eighties who had bought it when he was in his early twenties. He and his wife drove it as a daily driver for over sixty years, so it is a survivor, not a barn find or a restored car. When he overhauled the 265 V8 engine at 40K miles, he used a '56 265 V8 engine block because they added an oil filter mount in '56, but he kept the original '55 engine all of those years and I bought it from him also, so it is included in this sale of the car (so you'll get an extra engine with the car.) I converted the front brakes to disc and lowered the front 2 inches and rebuilt the front end. I also converted it from generator to alternator, and replaced the clutch (it is a 3 on the tree with a solenoid activated fourth overdrive gear, but the OD actuator isn't currently hooked up.) I saved all of the old parts when I did the upgrades in case someone ever wants to return everything to original and put the original '55 engine back in. With the additional (original) engine, I basically have a one owner numbers matching car with 60K miles on the rebuilt engine and 100K on the rest of the car (he reset the odometer to zero when he did the engine swap at 40K miles and it now shows about 60K miles.) The original owner was a body and paint guy during his career, and he repainted the car a darker metallic green lacquer at some point in the 70s or 80s after his wife got rear ended (you'll see a bit of paint chipping off of the passenger rear quarter in the photos where he did the repair.) He also fabricated custom wheel skirts for the rear wheel wells. He also riveted aplastic or fiberglass patch panel into the passenger side front floor board. It can be replaced with a metal one made to match and be welded in. The driver's side could use one, as well as a handful of the body braces that are attached to the frame. The car is for sale locally, so this auction could be terminated early if it sells locally.
