Vehicle Detail
1959 Singer Gazelle Convertible *** NO RESERVE *** History: I recently bought this car along with two others convertibles from the estate of the same owner. One car is a parts car, one car has been converted to a V6 with the work about half complete and this car that was intended to be restored to original condition by the previous owner. This Singer was in the garage and I bought it as you see in the pictures (the pictures were taken the day I picked it up). It appears to be complete I can't see anything missing except for a couple of very small pieces that I may have in the parts car. I have not made any attempt to start the car as it has been sitting since 1990 so it will need to be gone through before I would consider trying to start it. I knew when I bought cars that I would only want to keep one and the car that has been converted to a Chevy V6 is what interests me the most, as a result this one is for sale. I found this quote from an internet add for another Singer Convertible for sale in England... "MK 3a Singer Gazelle two door Convertible only 29 known surviving examples in the World, only two remaining in the U.K. produced by Rootes Group 1951 to 1963". From the research I have done it shows that Roots Group built this car for its three divisions, Hillman had the Minx version and was the low end model, next Sunbeam had the mid range Rapier and the top of the line was the Singer Gazelle. It appears the the total production in this series for all models (convertible, coupe, sedan and wagons) is 1582 cars. This car features the unique 3 position convertible top (up - landau and down) the picture of the red car shows the landau position, the picture of the blue car is an example of a restored Gazelle. Mechanical: The car appears to be complete mechanically but I not have made any attempt to start it. It has been parked for nearly 30 years so it will need to go through a start up procedure that any car sitting this long would require. The transmission does shift through the gears and the car rolls and steers. The tires are in poor condition and there is no battery or keys. Body: The body has some rust visible on the lower section of the front fenders behind the the front wheels (the headlight area is good) and on the lower rear quarter panels behind the rear wheels. The rockers panels have some rust but it is not a serious amount in my opinion. The windshield frame is good, the trunk floor appears to be good and the floors appear to be good. The is a line of rust on the passenger side seam where the in rocker panels meets the floor riser. I have not had the car on a hoist but the body seems to above average for its age. The frame also looks good. The transmission tunnel has been cut in the centre (I don't know why but I will include a replacement part from the parts car if the buyers wants it as well as any other parts the parts car can provide (at no cost). The rust on the car is not overwhelming and I believe all can be repaired without needing to replace the panels. The paint is poor. The windows all roll up and down and the there are no cracks including the windshield. The 3 position convertible top folds and locks and is complete. The car has tow bar mounts and included the tow bar as well. Interior: The interior needs to be redone but is complete except for the clock. The real wood trim is in place on the dash and doors and can be refinished. The original radio is in place. The convertible top fabric needs to be replaced. Shipping and Exporting Dimensions: Length 4153mm... Width 1543mm... Height 1511mm... Payment: Payment by bank to bank wire transfer or cash in person must be made within 5 days of the end of the auction NO EXCEPTIONS. Overall: This car needs a complete restoration but is very rare. You won't need to spend time trying to locate impossible to find parts as the car is almost 100% complete. The body has rust, but is very restorable. If its a car you like you will probably never have another chance to buy another one. If your looking for an exceptionally rare project that is worth the time and effort then this may be the car for you. I have made this an no reserve auction with a low starting bid because I'm serious about selling it. If you do not have the funds or you are not certain about buying it, then please don't bid. Please keep in mind that this is an un-restored car, it can not be driven at this time. It will be sold on a bill of sale.
