Vehicle Detail

This is a 1982 Honda CBX Super Sport that is spectacular in most every way. It looks and runs great. There was a lot of time, effort and money put into making it what it is today...a stunning example of what has become a highly sought after classic. However, if you are a purest and want a bike restored to factory specs this one is not for you. Those who are familiar with CBX's know that the paint work on this bike is from the 1981 model year not the white and powder blue paint scheme that was original on the 1982 models. Why? Because I didn't like those colors but loved the gunmetal gray and black scheme from 1981. So that is what I did. I also painted and powder coated most every other part of the bike gloss black rather than the matte black that was featured on the factory bikes. The gloss black really pops when compared to the matte black. I also chromed plated parts that didn't come that way from the factory and polished others to a high gloss finish. When you put it all together it is quite a compelling look. The bike draws interest and positive comments everywhere it goes. There are too many new parts to mention in total but some of them are a Delkevic reproduction exhaust system ($1,300), Continental tires, EBC brake pads and a Shorai lithium battery ($300). I paid a local business over $700 to polish and chrome some of the parts. I had the carburetors completely rebuilt by Mike Nixon who is the dean of Honda CBX carb rebuilders. Check out his work at on his website. motorcycle project dot you know what. That cost me over $1,000. However, given a CBX is dependent on 6 carbs to perform perfectly in order for the bike to run correctly, it was money well spent. I also had the gauges refurbished by Pistol Pete. You can find him on the web as well. The powder coating cost over $800 and the professionally applied paintwork was another $2800. And that doesn't count what I paid for the bike and the many hours of labor it took to make it what it is today. Is this CBX perfect? No it is not, but it is very near perfect. It looks better than new, all the gauges, lights and other electrical and mechanical components (except the one detailed below) work and function. The motor runs as it should. Smooth and powerful. The transmission shifts crisply through all the gears and as you can see from the pictures, it is a beautiful example of a CBX Super Sport. There are two blemishes on the bike. One is that the seat cover has a small split in it. See the picture. The other is that the temperature gauge does not work. Other than that everything else works as it should. Needless to say I have a lot invested in this motorcycle and I'll be surprised if I get back what I have in it. So have at it. Go ahead and be the high bidder. In the end if you do find this one in your garage it will put a smile on your face for a good long time!
