Vehicle Detail

Ford F-150 Dual Fuel LPG (Propane)/Gasoline w/CARB EPA EOs This is a 2000 F-150 XL 7700 with a post factory (Ford endorsed) LPG (Propane) conversion. The conversion was done by GFI/Teleflex in Kitchener, Canada in December of 1999. The conversion includes twin LPG tanks with a 40 gallon capacity, a tank cover, extra fuel door, etc., all professionally installed. At the time, the vehicle was certified by CARB and EPA. You can view the CARB EO for the engine family here: https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/cert/pcldtmdv/2000/gfi_mdv_a3250028_5d4_u1_lpgas.pdf The CARB EO allows the vehicle to pass smog inspection in California. During the time I have owned this truck, I have smogged the truck twice and will have to do so once more immediately prior to its sale. The fuel can be switched between LPG and gasoline at any time, even when driving. A toggle switch is mounted to the right of the steering column and is switched up and down to select fuel source. The LPG capacity is 32 gallons (LPG tanks are only filled to 80%) and gas capacity is about 28 gallons. Each tank provides around 325-350+ miles range, for up to 700+ miles without refueling if both tanks are topped off. This is a 7700 F-150, which is basically an F-250 light with all of the attributes of the F-250, including a heavier frame, larger brakes, higher-capacity wheels and an 8,800 pound towing capability. The truck features a 5.4L Triton V8 and stiff, heavy suspension, 130A alternator, four wheel ABS with disc brakes, 7-lug stud wheels, dual airbags, beefier 5 sp transmission and rear differential. It is a base model which features a single cab, bench seat, rubber/plastic flooring and manual crank windows. The radio was upgraded (see below). It also features AC, four power disc brakes w/ABS and power steering. Since purchasing the truck in 2013, I have added/replaced the following: Rear Adjustable Air Shocks All tires (approximately half of their life remaining) Replaced front lower suspension arms and ball joints. Front end alignment. Intake Manifold Idle Air Control Unit (IAC) All 8 Injectors All Spark Plugs and Coils Master Brake Cylinder ABS unit Starter Flex Plate Serviced transmission/replaced filter Vacuum hoses, PCV Insulated interior Added spray on Bed Liner Replaced under hood LPG fuel system New Fuel Pump (gasoline) New Fuel Filter (gasoline) New O2 Sensors (4) Added Remote Door Locks Muffler Mount Replaced front Rotors, Brakes, Bearings and Seals in April, 2018. Also replaced rear Brakes. Replaced Radio. The New radio features blue tooth audio for listening to music via cel phone, plus hands free phone. A mic is mounted on the sun visor above the driver and the speaker feed is run through the speakers, allowing for safe, clear and easy phone conversations. The truck has two Keys with immobilizer chips. This truck is in 100% running condition, with the exception of the following: The original instrument cluster had a cold solder problem that caused the mileage display to fade out when it got warm (a common problem with these trucks) The cluster was replaced with a used one, only to find that it too had the same issue-a big mistake. The original cluster had 139,008 miles and the used one had 207,230 miles on it, adding 70,000 miles (I have an invoice noting the replacement of the cluster and the before and after mileage). The current mileage displayed is 255,000 or 186,800. The cruise control light reads “Fuel Reset” instead of “Cruise” and the fuel gauge reads about half of the tank capacity (only reads ½ full when full). Note that the “low fuel” light works normally and comes on when its gets low, so running out of fuel isn’t an issue. A new cluster for the truck will run about $300, plus installation. Additionally, the Over Drive button has a broken wire and doesn’t function (the truck goes into OD as normal, but now you lack the ability to take it out of OD). A new stalk with the switch will run about $70. The LPG fuel level is not monitored by the fuel gauge, however, when the LPG is close to running out, power is noticeably diminished, providing ample time to switch over to gas. The original fuel system included a Compuvalve that could not be repaired. I worked for the company that made the unit and replaced several of the components, however, I could not get it to work. So, the old equipment was removed and a new IMPCO Model E regulator, 225 Mixer and an ADP unit was installed. The ADP unit monitors the O2 sensors and modifies the regulator pressure and fuel delivered to the engine (closed loop feedback system). The new fuel system does not cycle fast enough to change the fuel delivered and the Check Engine light (MIL) will eventually illuminate when running on LPG. The codes indicate that the fuel (banks 1 and 2) are both too lean and too rich, yet this does not affect the drivability. The Check Engine Light does not illuminate when run on gasoline. The truck has not been in an accident since I’ve owned it, but I have no knowledge of its history or its previous owners. The front right panel has been repainted, suggesting it was repaired at one time, yet there’s no sign of damage. The exterior has several paint chips from rocks around the front end and there are a couple minor dings in the body (shopping carts?). The left front panel has a line and slight indentation behind the headlight, the front bumper has some dents and the skirt below it has a square cut. A full size spare is mounted under the bed and there is no trailer hitch. This is a rare vehicle and the chance to get a dual fuel truck that can pass smog in California. Should gas ever be rationed in the future, propane will still be available and the truck can continue to be driven. Note that dual fuel does not allow you to drive in the carpool lanes--only new and dedicated LPG vehicles qualify. Commercial LPG usually runs $1.90 or so, depending on the time of year and the price of gas. Due to the difference in energy content between LPG and gasoline, MPG with gasoline is around 14-15 and LPG is 10-12, however, both will vary depending on city vs. highway driving and driving habits. Note that running an engine on LPG greatly prolongs the life of the engine. LPG lacks the carbon content of gasoline and the oil remains much cleaner. The interior of the vehicle is clean. The bench seat is covered and I have not inspected it under the cover. The steering wheel is worn and covered. Other than light scratches and normal wear, there is no damage to the interior of the vehicle. The exterior is in good shape with no dents, just minor scratches and chips. The rear bed has been dinged and dented, but painted over with bed liner. The registration is current (2018) California. The title is clear and NO salvage title was ever issued. To the best of my knowledge, the truck is guaranteed to be as described above. However, given the many mechanical and electrical issues that may occur at any time without notice, this is an AS IS sale. Inspections may be made at the convenience of the seller, either in Santa Ana, Laguna Hills or somewhere nearby. Delivery may also be possible in the LA area for $1 mile at the convenience of the seller. Any technical inquiries regarding emissions, fuel economy, smog, EOs, etc. should be answered prior to bidding. Note that inquiries can only be answered if I’m available to do so, therefore, submit them with plenty of time for me to answer them—don’t wait until an hour before the auction ends to ask a question! Buyer must make a non-refundable $500 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of close of auction, unless other arrangements have been made in writing with the seller. The balance of the payment must be made via PayPal (plus applicable PayPal fees) in advance or in cash within 7 days of auction close, or the buyer will automatically forfeit his deposit and the truck will be relisted.
