Vehicle Detail
I am selling my 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible. This is a rare car that spent most of its life in dry Southern California. It has no rust, not even in the battery box, and has low mileage and an untouched body. While it has suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune throuth the decaades, it is in surprisingly good shape for a 54 year-old car. One has to remember back in the day, Chevrolet did not build cars with any expectations of their having a long life -- they wanted to sell you a new one in a couple of years, so cars usually were enginereed to wear out. Planned obsolesence is what they called it. This car fooled them! For 1964, Chevrolet changed the Corvair modestly to meet market demands and safety converns. The 1964 got a revised rear suspension with an anti-sway bar affixed to the rear wheels via the transmission, and a larger, more powerful engine. Chevy expanded the engine from 145 cubic inches to 164 and raised the horsepower from 102 to 110 in this final version of the air-cooled Corvair engine. This was the highest horsepower engine available in a Corvair except for the turbo-charged Spyder. This is a much more dependable engine and a lot less touchy than the turbo. These engines were so solidly engineered and built that they still use them in airplanes! This car started life as a triple-white car, white exterior and interior, and white convertible top. It was paiinted several years ago as the owner just thought it was too much white. If I didn't like the maroon color, I would have painted it back to original but I got used to it and like it very much. The car has a set of after-market 13" wheels, but the original hub caps go with the car as you can see from the trunk pictures. The car runs and drives very well, shifts smoothly with its four-speed transmission, and is very dependable. I drive it back and forth to work several times a month and never fear it will not start and run. This is a car you can fly in and drive home, regardless the distance. Chevrolet's warranty ran out in 1964 and I am not warranteeing this car either. This car, like almost all cars on eBay and elsewhere, is sold "AS-IS, WHERE IS." The buyer is responsible for any repairs after the sale. I am responsible for how I describe the car and I try to be very truthful. One man's treasure is another man's trash -- so cars are very subjective in nature. However, that being said, this is a really fine Corvair and worthy of any cosmetic touches you choose to bestow upon it. Payment is due at the end of auction, and I will NOT use Paypal for any reason - please don't ask. My experience with them has been almost totally unsatisfactory. I will accept a personal check for the deposit due at the end of auction, and cash, cashier's check or wire transfer for the balance. The car can stay in my covered storage until picked up -- no hurry. I like to look at it and I will miss it when it's gone. I will give any assitance necessary to your shipping company to get the car to your swiftly. Thanks for looking and hopefully bidding. Remember, 1960's Chevrolet convertibles do not and will not depreciate. These little cars are solid investments and great fun to drive. And they are amazingly frugal with gas. "When the top goes down, the price goes up." And Corvairs are going up all the time. Just look at the others for sale on eBay and compare my low price. My reserve is very reasonable and $5,000 less than others running right now.
