This auction is for a 2011 Mercedes-Benz S600 finished in Black with the Black Exclusive leather interior and Brown Poplar high-gloss wood trim. The original cost of this car was $163,175 in 2011! It was the second most expensive version of the W221 S-class bodystyle with the S63 costing “only” $140,000 and the S65 at $222,000. It has been Mercedes dealer maintained and the expensive repairs that are common to this model have been done recently as well as the 60K major service. See details further down in the description. WHY THE S600 IS A BETTER VALUE THAN THE S63 OR S65 MODELS The S600 is the ultimate in Mercedes luxury and exclusivity in the high end S-class range without the high parts and repair costs of S65 or S63 AMG models. For example, check the prices on routine brake parts. Front and rear brake rotors for the S63 and S65 are over $1,000 each! For the S600, just $170. Front brake pads on the AMG cars are $290 but only $100 for the S600. As for being the most exclusive model S-class, you just have to compare how many S-class are offered here at any one time. Currently (when this auction started) there were 91 S550s listed, 18 S63s, 4 S65, and just 2 other S600s. If you are looking to drive a prestige automobile that you don’t see every day at the mall or supermarket parking lot and that won’t cost a lot to maintain, this is the model to buy. The S600 is powered by a 510 horsepower 5.5 liter twin turbocharged and intercooled V12 engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output and inherent smoothness. Exquisitely seamless and seemingly endless thrust is the calling card of this flagship among flagships. What’s even more impressive is that it sends a staggering 612 lb-ft of peak torque to its rear wheels allowing it to achieve a 0-60 mph time of just 4.1 seconds! That’s as quick as a Corvette coupe of the same year and quicker than 99.9% of the 4-door cars on the road today. Probably the only sedan that would be quicker might be the Mercedes-Benz S65 that cost $50,000 more, but you would be wrong. The S65 takes 4.2 seconds to get to 60 mph due to increased weight and the traction control kicking in. Code named M275, this engine is an all-aluminum 60 degree V12 biturbo design for low weight and maximum heat dissipation, it has single overhead cams (SOHC) with 3 valves per cylinder for simplicity, two turbochargers for instant throttle response and twin-spark plug ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions. To put all that power and torque to the pavement, a heavy duty 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is used. While the S550 has a 7-speed transmission, the internal components weren’t rugged enough to be used with the V12. A more robust 5-speed unit was specified for the S600. Although the outside dimensions of the transmissions are similar, with two less gears to package, the remaining five gears as well as the clutches and pump could be made thicker and larger which increase durability. Rounding out the S600 powertrain are suspension, steering and brakes designed to give precise control along with the ultimate in smooth riding and safe stopping. The heart of the S600 ride is Active Body Control (ABC) and is arguably the most advanced fully active suspension in production. It responds instantly to optimize comfort and control in virtually any driving situation. It features driver selectable Sport and Comfort modes, 4-wheel level control, and automatic lowering at higher speeds to enhance stability. Some of the main features on the car include: Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control will maintain a safe distance from cars ahead in varying traffic conditions by braking and accelerating up to the set speed as traffic allows. If traffic stops, Distronic Plus can even brake the car to a full halt, then resume automatically when your path clears. The distance to cars in front is adjustable. It has a super straight dent-free body with no significant dings and just a few touched-up stone chips on the front bumper and hood that you would normally expect on a car of this age and mileage. The paint itself is beautiful. It has been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish, topped off with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic Wax and then sealed with Meguiar’s Ultimate Fast Finish for a long lasting brilliant high gloss shine. Even both the front and also the backsides of the wheels have been cleaned and waxed! How obsessed is that? All the glass, moldings, trim and emblems are excellent. The wheels show some brake dust pitting close up. The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no cracks, rips or tears or any significant signs of wear. The trunk looks like it was hardly used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. It has a clean Carfax title history with no reported accidents although some damage was reported to the right rear not due to an accident in 2017. The engine runs strong and feels silky smooth at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range and it starts instantly whether hot or cold. The transmission shifts precisely at all speeds. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has a set of four new premium Continental ContiProContact tires. 255/40R19 on the front and 275/40R19 on the rear. The car was regularly dealer serviced by the previous owner at Mercedes-Benz of Arlington VA, aka American Service Center. Details of the maintenance and repairs follows, and the three common expensive repairs have all been done. Those included the Active Body Control pump, the engine mounts and 24 spark plugs. So except for oil and filter changes, you should be able to drive the car beyond the 100,000 mile mark without spending too much on maintenance and repairs. Nearly $19,000 was spent in the last year and a half but while that seems like a lot, it was at full dealer retail pricing and more than half of that was for the ABC system and navigation unit. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either.
