Vehicle Detail

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass/442 Convertible painted in the Super Rare Radiant Green selling at "No Reserve" If you have been looking for that classic muscle car investment then this rare Classic Muscle Car Convertible just may have your name on it! These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember, when the top goes down the price goes up! This Olds does have the original numbers matching Rocket engine. I double checked the numbers and they do match the vehicle identification number. Mostly all of the components on this engine are believed to be the original parts. The engine was nicely detailed and even still has the original A-arm covers still on the inner fender wells. I purchased this car out of Virginia, so this convertible was never subjected to the salt of the Midwest winters. I will explain everything I found out from the prior owner. He had owned and enjoyed this rare Radiant green convertible for the last 16 years, and decided it was time for someone else to enjoy it. This is a very clean car that was only treated to one repaint about a decade ago. Obviously the prior owner well cared for this classic. With each passing year it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a Radiant Green 442 convertible with white bucket seats and a white convertible top. Everyone who knows these cars knows how rare this color and interior combination is to find. This Olds starts right up and drives down the road beautifully. The winning bidder will most likely have endless thumbs up wherever they drive. You should have an outgoing personality to drive a car like this, because everywhere you go people will be attracted to you like a magnet. The options on this Oldsmobile include Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Convertible Top, Dual Matching Sport Mirrors, White pinstriping, Body side molding, Chrome rocker cover molding, Front bumper guards, Cut-out back bumper, Chrome Trumpet exhaust tips, Front and Rear Sway bars, Tinted Glass, Bucket Seats, Console, Super Stock I Wheels, Sport Steering Wheel, and Air Conditioning. The air compressor is missing, but it looks like everything else is present including the condenser in font of the radiator to make it fully functional once again. The past owner never used the a/c because he only took the car out in top down weather only. Getting the a/c controls functioning will be left up to the new owner if they so desire. The convertible top was replaced several years ago, so it is in very good condition with no rips or tears and features the glass back window option. The top goes up and down very nicely through the switch on the dash. The doors still open and close like back in 1972. There are a very comfortable pair of bucket seats in good condition with a nice console shifter. The entire interior is in relatively nice condition as evident by the pictures. There is also a full set of seat belts present for a family of five. All of the factory decals were replaced in the correct spots in the engine compartment, and under the trunk lid to make this car appear factory correct like in 1972. Even the blue manufacturers decal with the vin number still in tact is present on the inside of the drivers door to show that this car was assembled in June of 1972. It would not take all that much time and effort to transform this model into a W-30 specimen. A ram-air hood can be purchased for around $600, and then you just need someone who is proficient in laying on white W-30 stripes. According to the OldsFaqs website only 1,025 of the Cutlass Supreme/442 convertible models were made with an automatic transmission in 1972. They said whether this model is a real 442 or a converted Cutlass Supreme it is still considered to be like a real 442 if it is converted properly. If it were a real W-30 it would have an X in the vehicle identification number. The red fender wells that were notorious on the 70 and 71 W-30 models were only red on the very first 10 1972 W-30's that rolled off the assembly line in December of 1971, so if the new owner left the original black fender wells on this car it would still be considered proper for a W-30 look-a-like in 1972. I'll give a little background on the 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass S, and 442 models. Prior to the 1972 model year the vehicle identification numbers in all 442's started out with 344. That was the way to determine whether that specific car was ordered from the dealership as a true 442. This is easily verified by the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up online. The 442 could be ordered as a separate model up until 1971. Oldsmobile decided to make the 442 an ordered option starting in 1972. The OldsFaqs website made the statement that there is no such thing as a fake 442 in 1972. All 1972 442 convertible models started life as a Cutlass Supreme, since the 442 was an ordered option. Whether the car was factory ordered as a 442, or dealer installed, or a private owner installed all the 442 options, they are all considered Cutlass Supreme or Cutlass S bodies. This is why all 1972 442 convertibles have Cutlass Supreme on the glove box door, and all 442 hardtops have just plain Cutlass on the glove box door. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals on this car, and really look in nice condition. This car has been garage kept for the entire time the prior owner owned this convertible. He is believed to be the second owner. The black carpeting was recently changed with the extra sound deadening padding, so it appears like new. There is a set of four brand new black carpeted floor mats. The grille's are original 442 grille's not aftermarket replacements and the chrome is all in very nice condition and the front and rear bumpers were replaced, so they look like new with the front bumper having the factory bumper guard option. The sweet cut-out 442 rear bumper has the awesome factory dual chrome trumpet exhaust tips. This car has a nice factory rumble. This Olds rides on a set of four B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A raised white lettered steel belted radial tires on Super Stock I wheels with all four bolt-on center caps, all four beauty trim rings, and chrome lug nuts. This convertible has front and rear sway bars and there is a 10-bolt rear-end, but I am unaware of the gear ratio. The original trunk floor is in perfect condition and was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray for the trunk to stay in nice condition for many years to come. The trunk carries a full size fifth Super Stock I spare wheel with a B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A, and the nicely restored original jack, jack stand, and crow bar. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road with a quick tire change you can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. The original dash pad is in very good condition with no cracking. The sound system is an Alpine AM/FM CD player with speakers under the dash, so the music can actually be heard with the top down. With the 442 sport wheel steering these cars is simply a delight. There is a brand new washer fluid container under the hood. The speedometer shows just over 29,000 miles, but there is no way to verify the mileage as 100% correct. The majority of states have mileage as exempt on cars 10 years or older. The original 1972 Cutlass/442 owner's manual is included inside the glove box. This sale is being made with a clean and clear Virginia title. These older classics that have survived for over 45 years are becoming harder and harder to find in this condition. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1972 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible with the Rocket 350/180 horsepower V8 L-34 option and air conditioning listed at $69,000 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. They have the average condition listed as $46,460, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer!Nada has the lowest condition value at $29,670 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. The Nada numbers don't lie! These Classic Iconic Oldsmobile Muscle Car Convertible's are extremely valuable. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have shown to consistently escalate in value with each quarter. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a nominal price. I tried to list everything I know about this car when writing this description. If you feel I may have left anything out please ask as many questions as you like. This convertible is being stored at my buddy's house in Kenosha, Wisconsin just over the Illinois/Wisconsin border and will need to be picked up or transported from there. The deposit is required within 24 hours and the balance is due within 72 hours. The title will be sent out by U.S. Priority Mail to the winning bidder as soon as the funds are clear. This Radiant Green Beauty is being offered for the very first time on a quick 5-day "No Reserve" auction and will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 8pm Eastern time, 7pm Central time, and 5pm Pacific time. There are plenty of local car shows to attend this season so don't miss out! Thank you for taking the time to view my auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!
