Vehicle Detail

One of the very few 500E's left. Bought the car from I believe the 2nd owner in Richmond, VA in 2012. Since then the car has been in Tuscaloosa, AL. The car was always well taken care of, Shell Premium Fuel only, etc, always professionally maintained since I have owned it. Rear ended a Ford Explorer going about 20/25 mph in January and didnt have total coverage insurance so I have decided its time to let it go. Drove the car home (about 2 miles) from the accident and the engine and transmission appear, as far as I know, and according to my mechanic, to be ok. The transmission was replaced at 140,000 miles with a rebuilt one. Just in the recent past have replaced all brake components, oil pressure sensor, and new headlight switch. Have spent a lot of $$$ on this car. The car currently sits at my mechanics (The Mercedes Doctor) in Trussville, AL. He is an expert and has been taking care of the car for years, I have all the receipts to prove it. He has told me that he could fix the car for about $7000 (roughly $2000 for auto body and roughly $5000 for parts and labor.) Need the front core support straightened out and new radiator, condensor, fan blade, hood, etc. I have a set of Euro style headlights in the backseat that are still in the box that come with the car and could be used in the repair. (If you buy the car the Mercedes Doctor, Larry, could repair the car for you, just an idea) I love this car and hate to see it go, but I am trying to get out of debt and get these school loans paid off :-( Looked up on Hagertys and the value of a fair condition 500E on average is now up to $18,000, good condition $27,000. Apologies, I had planned on getting the car fixed so before it got towed up to Mercedes Doctor I did not get a lot of pics of the interior, etc, but I can honestly tell you the interior is in good shape, no major wear at all, only minimal wear on drivers seat. The "good" picture is from about two years ago that I had saved on my phone. Fix this baby and feel that 322 hp throw you back in the seat, its an amazing feeling. I have the reserve at what I believe to be a low and fair price. This car is being sold AS-IS. Thank you all for the reaching out and I have enjoyed the talks and texts and I like that so many people are interested in the car. Because I feel so bad about not having more pics I have been racking my brain about any more details I may have left off the original description and I went back thru all the receipts and will list parts replaced (that were not affected by the crash). And took pics of the manuals. Going back thru the books made me remember what the previous seller has told me, that the car was sold original in Manhattan (see the pic of service records stamp from Connecticut). Then I believe he said was bought by someone in D.C, before he bought it in Richmond. So I would be the fourth owner I believe. I have been asked specifically about rust, the euro headlights, and drivers seat, which I will explain further. The "euro headlights" which I should really describe as headlamps, I bought off Ebay in 2012 and spent roughly about $400 on them. I do not know if they are Hella or a knockoff. I know they are still in the boxes in the backseat of the car currently. I found the receipt ($160 for him to tell me they wouldnt work at the time) from The local Tuscaloosa mechanic thats says "headlamps have no bulbs and would need modifications to head wiring harness on both sides to work". That is really all the info I have. To the best of my memory when I bought them on ebay they were supposed to be OEM replacements, but I cannot with certainty claim they are Hella or "authentic". Rust/Paint - the only rust spot on the exterior paint was about a quarter size spot on the driver side rear wheel well. I bought the color match paint from Dr. Color Chip and a rust gel and covered the spot up with the paint. I can mail the remaining paint with the records/manuals to whomever the buyer is. My mechanic never mentioned anything to me about rust other than 1 small issue i found when going back thru the receipts with the heat shields on the under carriage that had rusted and were falling down. he removed them and said it would be ok. I have always kept the car stored under a carport out of the sun and I believe the previous owner kept it in a shed. I bought the color match paint to also cover up a scratch, about the size of a postcard beside the fuel filler flap where the car had been keyed. What assholes. thank god it was a relatively small spot, and you can see it from a few feet, but with the paint on it, it blends in well. There are some small cat scratches on the trunk lid but I think with a good waxing/ professional paint rejuvenation/ or buffing/compound, whatever you want to call it, they could be buffed out. Most of these miles ( I bought the car with 108,000) have been highway. Lots of trips to see family in Kentucky for all the holidays. And I would drive the car once or twice a week around Tuscaloosa. Driver seat is in good shape. No holes or cuts or major wear at all. Just needs a good cleaning and leather rejuvenation I think. I know some of yall are interested in this car for parts so Im trying to describe it as accurately as possible. The interior was in good shape all together. Your typical small crack lines in the wood of the gear shiter console area but not bad. One of the rear speakers was going out I believe the passenger side. The front passenger seat controls for headrest and back support had been knocked off the door but the seat could still be adjusted. The rear sunshade did work fine up and down.. but the switch to lower the rear headrests did not work. The windshield wipers wouldnt usually work on intermittent setting, but would always work on low and high. (so maybe a short? idk) and the sunroof would always open but would require many tries to get it to move to close back (so once again, maybe a short? ) the rear view mirror needs to be replaced, the bits and pieces inside of it fell out. all of these were on my list of things to get fixed but hadnt got to it yet. Ok i think I have rambled enough, now going to list the parts (not including the labor $) of what I have done to the car since 2011 that sholdnt have been impacted by the crash. 2011 - @ 116,500 miles power steering pump $700 (after the crash the car did lose power steering but I dont know if the pump will have to be replaced again) ride height control valve $400 fuel line tank to filter $37 new gas cap $20 crank sensor $150 3 engine mounts $36 2 steering pipes $132 1 serpentine belt and tensioner $100 2 auto fluid "flexipipes" $175 1 sway bar $65 2013 - @ 134,500 miles replaced shifter linkage bushings engine - remove right side valve cover gasket and inspect timing chain rails. Rails were "ok" at the time. timing rail gasket, valve cover gasket and air pump hose $83 May 2013 - tires. @136,400 miles. Uniroyal Tiger Paw A/S $470 05/14 - installed rebuilt transmission and replaced rear main oil seal (had 3 year warranty that expired in 2017) $2500 headlamp bulb sockets ($21) (may not be good anymore since accident, I dont know) May 2015 - replaced front passenger door speaker $120 Feb 16 @ 154,700 miles - car was running rough Engine - replace ignition caps, rotors, plugs, air filters, and two wire boots @ the caps rotor, distributor (2) $170 cap, distributor (2) $260 spark plugs (8) $40 air filter (2) $37 Ignition wire connector (2) $27 Brakes - total brake overhaul. Front pads/rotors, rear pads/rotors, and parking brake shoes/hardware and brake fluid flush. $650 Thermostat (Not sure if this was impacted by crash since I think it has something to do with the radiator) thermostat and bypass hose $70 Lug bolts - numerous wheel bolts stuck. replaced all wheel bolts $115 March 2016 - new battery (located in trunk) $150 August 2017 - @ 165,000 miles last oil change before accident. Synthetic oil. headlight switch ($83) (previous switch had lost its knotches) adjust bent in fog light ($20) oil pressure sender unit ($100) transmission service ($150) rough idle issue - replaced fuel pressure regulator and used Bg-44k fuel additive $100 (since then I had not experience rough/irregular idle again). Hope all this info helps, I am so tired of typing -Ken
