Up until that point, dad always drove, and she never once got behind the wheel of any motor home. Today she loves driving the Winnebago Sprinter, and dad wishes she took up driving a long time ago. Honestly, maneuvering a Sprinter is way more car-like than most people realize. They stop and turn effortlessly, and have great torque so taking off from a stop light is smooth and responsive, akin to a car, more than the ¾-ton behemoth it is. For those not familiar, Hanvey Mercedes Diesel Sprinters all grooming components are powered through a 3000 watt power inverter battery bank system, which recharges while the engine is running; thus eliminating the need for a separate gas generator. The inverter system is nothing like in the old days, which today are virtually trouble & maintenance free. The battery bank allows you to fully operate at multiple stops without running the engine, however since the engine supplies the front & rear AC & heat, you will leave the engine idling at most stops. Every time you drive, the battery bank gets a 200 amp charge, so you only plug in a night to top off the bank. Most times the bank is relatively full when you get home. When Hanvey researched and discussed his power format with Mercedes engineers, he was told it is much better to leave engine in idle, rather than stop & start several times a day. Besides the Mercedes diesel engine run so cool that they are made to idle and they are just so quiet and clean burning compared to a gas generator. The other benefit is you won’t have the hassle of moving, tripping over, filling and/or storing gas for a separate gas generator. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Without question this particular vehicle being a mobile dog grooming van was an unusual challenge we learned a ton while certifying all the Hanvey grooming components listed in the opening above. This said we are very pleased to report that everything works just as it did when it rolled off the Hanvey showroom back in July of 2007. The Sprinter starts, shifts, runs and drives flawlessly with remarkably nice ride quality. The prior owner lived and worked in South FL, so it has never seen a single day of nasty northern snow or road salt. We took care of a host of routine maintenance the Sprinter needed including oil & filter change, new TPMS sensors, and DPF assembly & sensors. After a couple failed attempts to peel off some areas of baked-on vinyl wrap we were forced to respray of the exterior – meaning it’s now prepped perfectly for a new vinyl wrap job. We also replaced a section of the rear subfloor due to residual water from within the interior trapped under the wood subfloor and the heavy factory undercoating lining the under-chassis (and had no place to go). Repairs were all done professionally (not in-house). Particular attention was paid so something like this can never occur again by creating a triple layer waterproof membrane between the metal and wood subfloor. Last note about condition of this Sprinter... please remember you are looking at a 10 year old used commercial dog grooming van, and not a new or used “passenger car.” Standards of wear & tear are different between passenger and commercial vehicles based how each are used. For instance, we can’t imagine selling a passenger car to a retail customer with dog hair in it. Well we have literally spent 5x the amount of time vacuuming this vehicle, and we’ll still find an occasional plume of dog hair in a nook or cranny. Here’s what we can tell you about this Sprinter, it is in much better condition than 99% of 2007 commercial work vans we have ever sold.
