Vehicle Detail

1965 Mustang Convertible Project Car This 1965 Mustang Convertible is complete, all parts are there. The odometer shows 98,700 miles, but he original engine was replaced in 1974 with a factory new ¾ block 289 V8 with 4 barrel carburetor. There are approximately 30,000 miles on the new engine. It has a 4 speed transmission on the floor with a Hurst Shifter (the original the T bar shifter is also included as well as a box of engine parts: distributors, starters, etc. from a 289, a 3 speed plus bell housing for a 289, a rear end, door, unmounted tires, a console, Traction bars. The car was a daily driver through 1988, put into cold storage until 2008 and has been stored outside under cover since. It was driven several miles from cold storage to where it now sits. The engine was winterized before I stored the car, but it hasn’t been started in 8 years. The clutch was slipping before I put in storage. The brake lines need replacement. The interior is intact, although dirty, there is good glass all around, and rear window was plastic and needs replacement along with the top which has a few repaired tears in it. The mechanics for the roof appear to be functional, no rust or damage. The car was never in an accident, never hit or dinged in a parking lot. Please examine the pictures closely, as I am limited to 12 pictures, I’ve posted the most representative of the car. There are the usual rust spots, the floors and trunk have a few spots, normal for Mustangs of this vintage. The rocker panels appear sound without rust. Happy to email pictures to interested parties. The car is located just west of Boston near Watertown, MA Make no mistake, this is a project car, hence the low starting bid of $500. There is no reserve! Winning bidder is responsible for transport, payment in full by PayPal within 3 days of auction end. SOLD AS-IS WITH NO WARRANTY WRITTEN OR IMPLIED DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. On Nov-27-17 at 14:44:52 PST, seller added the following information: The driver’s fender has the following stamped F508D165229 Indicating the following: 5 = 1965 year it was built (Ford used 5 for BOTH 1964 1/2 as well as 1965 F = Dearborn, Michigan assembly plant 08 = indicates convertible D = Engine 289 4V V8 165229 = unit (this was the 65,228 car built) According to Ford research, each plant started each year with number 100,001 The Falcon, Fairlaine, and Mustang were all numbered together, regardless of model or type. The plate on the door: 76A 3 86 12F 11 1 5 indicating the following: 76A = convertible, standard interior, bucket seats 3 = Poppy Red color 86 = interior trim black vinyl 12F = June 12, 1964 11 = Sales District Boston 1 = Axle Ratio Code = 3.00 5 = Transmission Code 4 speed manual I am the second owner, the odometer reads: 95799.2 The original engine was replaced in 1974 when the odometer reading was approximately 65, 000 with a factory new ¾ block 289 V8 with 4 barrel carburetor. It was professionally installed by the local Ford Dealership. There are approximately 30,000 miles on it.There two areas in the trunk where rust was removed and sheet metal pieces installed (check pictures). The driver's rocker panel is good, the passenger rocker panel has a rust through spot about 3/4 from the front.Included in the sale is a front bumper needs to be rechromed and upper/lower pans as seen in the pictures.I have added and additional 12 pictures, please check them out; interior cleaned up, trunk emptied, numbers showing (fender and door) On Nov-27-17 at 17:25:46 PST, seller added the following information: Upon review of various internet Mustang research sites, this Mustang may actually be a 1964 1/2 based on the codes, if anyone is interested to research the codes and the many Mustang Collectors websites they may come to the same conclusion. According to Ford, there were a total of 121,538 Mustangs produced during the 1964½ model run. Mustangs were built between March 1964 and August 17, 1964, and were identified as 1964½. This Mustang was built on June 12, 1964, and has the number in the warranty tag hows 165229 and therefore was the 65,228 "Ford" built. (I say this because the production year at each plant started with 100,001, but they built Mustangs, Fairlanes, Galaxys, all at the same time, so, it's possible this Mustang could probably have a lower Mustang production number because of all the other models being built. (you can easily research the codes and number of Mustangs built from 1964-1965)On Nov-30-17 at 04:18:15 PST, seller added the following information: As of today 11-30-2017, I have been unable to locate the Title and the engine keys. In full disclosure, I did have the Title, Registration and Keys when I last drove the car, in October/November of 1988. I put them away for "safe" keeping; I did have the keys in mid (June) 2008 when I moved it from cold storage (garage) to where it now sits (outside in my driveway covered with tarps). Somehow I have misplaced the key, and have been looking for it since before the car was listed. If you know about older Mustangs, there is no VIN number like newer cars (on the left front of the dashboard); there is only the Warranty number stamped into the frame where the cutout is on the left front fender as I show in the pictures, as well as a plate on the driver's door which also includes the other codes (explained above and shown in the picture) In Massachusetts, where the car is located, a Title is not required to sell a car built prior to 1980, just a Bill of Sale; but your state may be different. Please check your state's RMV as their rules may be different. I will continue to search for the Title, Keys and any old Registration, and have contacted my current insurance company who carried the insurance on the car back in the day, perhaps they can come up with some paperwork. This disclosure suggests, that it might best to sell as a Parts car (although all the parts and more are there are put together). Without the key I can not crank the engine; it turned over 10 years ago, when I last drove it; it was winterized prior to going into storage, but no way to see if it will crank over today. Again, if I can locate the keys, I can quickly ascertain this. With this full disclosure, please review your state's requirements, and bid accordingly. If after reading this disclosure and you are the high bidder and wish to withdraw your bid, please let me know and I will gladly assist in the process. If you have questions, please let me know through eBay message system. On Dec-02-17 at 12:15:43 PST, seller added the following information: Update: I have found the Keys!, I met with the Mass RMV and my Insurance Co.Mass RMV says they can't research Title due to the car's age and the last time itwas registered (1978?) nearly 40 years. It is believed that the original Title would have used the Warranty Numberas the "VIN" as 1964-1965 Mustangs did not carry a VIN as we know it today (17 digits) on the bottom left of the dashboard. The Insurance company no longer has any records dating back 40 years; they did provide me with a form for the Bill of Sale which they reviewed with the RMV,and the RMV was ok with it. The Bill of Sale will include: Warranty Number stamped and the fender frame and driver's door (which they verified does match),Data Codes describing the vehicle (1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Convertible, 289 4 barrel), and the mileage. )plus buyer/seller information. If I am able to either locate an old Title or the RMV issues me a replacement Title I will overnight them to the winning bidder. Also, included in the sale are: front end pans (top and bottom), front bumper (both a shown in the pictures posted in the listing), also included are spare parts: a drivers door from a 1966 with the original side view mirror, windshield, rear windows, traction bars, rear end, a boxof spare engine parts ) distributor, carburetor, and unmounted tires, and probably more as I clean out the storage areas. Let me know if any questions!
