I am the 2nd owner. The original owner is an Atlanta area executive who purchased the 540i in September, 1998 from Global Imports BMW in Atlanta. I have the original window sticker and all of the maintenance records since new. I purchased the vehicle February, 2015 and have continued the same maintenance regimen. We’ve both used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and changed the oil every 5K miles. In addition to routine maintenance I have replaced the following during my ownership: New thrust arm bushings-Feb 2015New power steering pressure lines- Feb 2015Rear Main Seal- May, 2015New alternator - August, 2016Spark plugs, brake fluid flush, wiper motors, and 100k mile service October 2016Brand New Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires installed August, 2016Valve Cover Gaskets September, 2017 The e39 is my favorite body style of all time and quite possibly the best balanced BMW out there. I have loved every single day I have had this beauty in my garage. I have driven my 540 throughout the Southeast and have made several trips to the beach and the mountains in it. 90 comes easier than it should and the highways are where she is happiest. The only reason I am selling is that I needed something with a latch for a car seat. I just had an oil service and the valve cover gaskets replaced in September. It does not leak a single drop of oil. The transmission shifts very smoothly and the brakes, steering, and suspension are absolutely perfect. All of the systems work perfectly, the air is ice cold and the heat and defogger work perfectly. Common issues with older BMWs are the pixels on the gauges giving out, the CD changer not working, and electrical gremlins that kill off the fog lights and the power locks. My 540 has NONE of those issues. I have seen similar 540s with over 250K miles. I would not hesitate to drive this anywhere and would keep this if I still had garage space. The only cosmetic issues are a small crack in the front lower bumper cover - only noticeable if you basically crawl under to look, and a few scuffs on 2 of the wheels. The car will come with the factory manual, all of the maintenance records, the window sticker, and both keys. I have a reliable shipper and can assist with logistics however needed. I am willing to store the car 5 days after deal close to assist the new buyer with arrangements to transport. This is by far one of the nicest e39 540s on sale right now and the new owner will have years of extremely fun motoring ahead. It is an almost 20 year old car and like all other vintage BMWs will have needs from time to time. If you want a new trouble free car might I suggest a 2017 Camry. If you love BMWs and the timeless e39 bodystyle you cannot do much better.
