Vehicle Detail

1938 Studebaker Commander State This is a 1938 Studebaker Commander State Four Door. This is a very rare car that was a one year design and the cathedral headlights were only used on Commander State and President Models (fewer than half the Studerbakers made in this year). It has the large 6 cylinder Flathead, 3 speed transmission with overdrive, (the overdrive does work). This car is nearly eighty years old yet with hydraulic brakes and a peppy six cylinder is quite drivable in today's environment. Painted an original optional color available in 1938: Lake Louise Blue (named for the blue green water of Lake Louise British Columbia). I am listing this for a friend who restored the car and has owed the car for about 20 years. The car is in Kent Washington and you can call the owner, Don directly if you have any questions at 253 854 0678. If you leave questions on Ebay please allow time for me to get a hold of Don for your response. The car has had a complete frame off restoration with the engine rebuilt; machine work on the engine was done by Pacific Machine Shop in Renton Washington who is respected for their engine work on vintage auto engines for many years. The car was nearly rust free and is restored completely. The only modifications from original are changing it to a 12 volt electrical system, adding a duel brake master cylinder and when the engine was done changing the babbitted bearings to inserts. That same engine was used after WWII and the factory changed those on the later versions so replacements fit with no modification and they are much better. All glass is new safety glass; new Coker 16" wide white-wall radial tires. It drives quite well, and looks great and roomy with suicide rear doors when you have friends and family to take along. A complete new interior with materials as close to original as available. The only thing that does not work is the original radio (is in the dash but does not work and has not been looked at to see what is required to repair it). It is very hard to determine the value of this vehicle. There appears to have been only one sold in Hemmings in the past three years and only one sold on EBay in the past 30 days. Both these vehicles were good original cars not restored and each sold for $8000. The value of this car that is fully restored should be about $18.000. This car has been listed previously with a $14,000 reserve and both times had bids over $10,000; the owner would like to sell the car to make room for his current restoration and has it listed with no reserve for one week with a starting price of $10,000. Good luck this is an exceptional car and the new owner is going to be proud to own and show it. On Oct-28-17 at 15:33:56 PDT, seller added the following information: the owner retained all the 6 volt parts and will include them with the car if you disire
