Vehicle Detail

Car is running extremely well, but likely needs some repair. Please read this entire description. I am the original owner, the only owner, and the only driver of this car. It's been my daily driver for 9.5 years. I have had all its maintenance done professionally and reasonably on time. The car has been extremely reliable for its entire lifespan, and continues to run very strong. Last week, the car's overheating alert began blinking on the dashboard. I took it to my mechanic promptly. He replaced the thermostat. This seemed to fix the problem to both me and my mechanic: The car no longer issues a warning on the dashboard. Multiple test drives by both the mechanic and by me indicate the car is running perfectly. However, since that repair, when the car is parked for a while, a small pool of clear liquid develops underneath the engine toward the front driver's side. I alerted my mechanic immediately. He now says that a small rubber valve on the front of the water pump has been distorted, and because it is distorted, it is allowing engine coolant to leak out. He says this is common when the thermostat malfunctions. The repair he suggested is a replacement water pump with the entire kit of related belts. He gave me a quote for $1100 to repair it. This has been an extremely reliable vehicle, but it is no longer a high-value vehicle, and I decided not to invest in this repair. I bought another car instead. The owner of the shop then offered to "take this car off your hands" for free. I refused. He offered me $200 for it. I said I'd just donate it. He offered me $250 and told me he needed to know within 2 days. Let's just be honest. Cars are not my strong suit. The shop has always given me good repair service, but the owner's intense efforts to buy this car don't feel right. So, eBay community, let's not play games. I'll tell you anything you want to know about this car with full honesty. You bid if you want whatever it's worth to you. Maybe you're about to get a phenomenal deal on a car that's going to give you 100,000 more miles with some tiny repair, or maybe with none, maybe just by keeping an eye on the coolant level. I hope you get a GREAT deal! I would feel a lot better about you getting a great deal than I would about this shop pulling one over on me. MORE FACTS: 1. NO SUBSTANTIAL ACCIDENTS: The car has never had any body work done. It's had minor contact with another car, with a signpost on the rear bumper, and with a piece of rebar sticking up out of a parking space block. I've driven up against dozens of curbs trying to park it. Also, when my son was little, he "helped" clear snow off the BODY of the car with an ice scraper, which left some streaks-of-love in the paint forever. So the car is not a beauty queen. She's got just as many little dings and things as you'd expect from 9.5 years of honest service, and every body panel is affected, but there's nothing really bad. The car has never been in any kind of significant accident. It's never been in a flood. Nothing terrible. 2. NO SMELLS: I'm a nonsmoker with no pets and no other bad habits. 3. CLEAR TITLE IN HAND: No liens, original title, no weird stuff. 4. THINGS THAT ARE GOOD: - all 4 tires last replaced together with Michelin ones that are designed to improve water removal as the tires wear. Still good life in them. Original spare tire is in the trunk in good shape. None of these 5 tires have experienced any damage or needed any repair. - brakes AND rotors replaced last time, should be in great shape - the original clutch lasted 150,000 miles because I drive so gently (daddy taught me well). The 2nd clutch is therefore only about 25,000 miles old, and likely has almost all of its lifespan left - original CD player / radio malfunctioned a couple years ago, and the car has a bluetooth-enabled JVC brand multi-purpose unit that will play from your phone, from CDs, from a USB thumb drive, or through an audio jack- no engine problems ever. Plus I drive like your grandma. I parallel park like her, too. :-/ 5. THINGS THAT ARE BAD:- read the story above, a small puddle forms under the car- you can't tell from the outside, but the front bumper on the driver's side is held on by zipties. A piece of rebar hooked under the bumper and pulled it off its connection on the driver's side. That happened 80,000+ miles ago and the fix is still holding perfectly - car is subject to a recall for a Takata brand airbag on the passenger side only (the driver side airbag is not Takata and is not recalled). Because millions of cars were affected, there's a scarcity of parts, and Subaru has told me to wait until they contact me that they have a part to repair my car. They haven't contacted me yet. But you'll get to fix it under the recall when the part is available. 6. TEST DRIVES:I'm okay with you test driving the car briefly. It's parked in Chantilly, VA. I am no longer driving it because I got a new car. 7. FREE STUFF with the car:- the first-aid kit I've kept in the trunk- a lumbar support pillow (1 month old)- a car vacuum (used once; turns out I prefer other people vacuuming my car)- the owner's manual. Does that count? It's okay to ask me anything about the car. I'll answer the very best I can. But DON'T ask to buy the car from me before the auction ends or outside of the auction. I'll say no. I have no idea what this car is worth because I don't know what to think about its condition. I need the auction to define its value. On Oct-10-17 at 16:09:45 PDT, seller added the following information: GOOD NEWS! Today I received the notice from Subaru that the parts are available now to fix the Takata airbag recall. I will TRY to get the recall repair done before you take ownership, to save you a trip to the dealer! On Oct-13-17 at 12:31:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I got a question on when the timing belt was replaced : The timing belt was replaced right on time at 105,000 miles or so. It was done by Palmer's Garage in Strasburg, VA. The mechanic was Wayne Brock -- great guy. It was replaced in Spring of 2013. When I first answered 10 minutes ago I said it was Fall 2011 -- sorry, that was not true; that's when the first tune-up was done at 60,000 miles. Also at Palmer's Garage. :-) Scheduled maintenance says the timing belt should be replaced again at 210,000 miles. You've got some time. ;-) Also, it's looking like I can't get to the dealer to get the airbag recall done ahead of time, but rest assured that you'll be able to have that work done whenever you like, as the parts are available for this car now.
