Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1968 Chevy Camaro that I've owned since 2010. When I purchased it, it had all the body work done, painted, and had a non numbers matching 1972 V8 engine and 4 speed Saginaw in it. After getting it road ready and registered, I could not stand the noise traveling above 50 MPH and it really took the fun out of driving it even though it got a lot of positive attention everywhere it went. Will consider trade for a newer Kubota BX tractor. In 2011 the goal was to upgrade the transmission and after MANY hours of research I decided to upgrade to a more modern T-56 5 speed transmission. While searching for a T-56 I eventually found a complete 93 Z28 Camaro with a tuned LT1 engine and freshly rebuilt T-56 with Viper 3-4 shift fork and Billet synchro keys. I drove the Z28 for a couple weeks for fun before transplanting the engine and transmission to the 68 and it is fast. There are several LT/LS to Gen1 swap sites out there which outline the steps required to retrofit the Camaro to accept the fuel injected engine with modifications. In 2011 there were only a couple sites detailing the modifications necessary to accommodate the upgrade. I have most of that already complete and the engine is running just fine. There are many sites out there now with info and guidence. Life has changed for me and although I want to finish it to enjoy it, there are new priorities. It's been in the "almost done" stage way too long and time to pass it on. I did my best to track the project and have a binder full of receipts and notes so I didn't get too carried away on costs. Whatever parts I bought but didn't install will go with the car. What's left? Here's what needs to be done:Hydraulic Clutch - I installed one that was "dry" without fluid and could not get it prime. I'd buy a new one that's already primed with fluid.Brakes - added new power booster and need bleeding or (as I was going planning on doing)- I'd upgrade the rear drums with new disc brakes. Wiring - I would have someone who is good with dressing up wiring (local speed shop?) work with the existing ECM and have the ECM mounted inside cabin under glovebox.New Power Steering reservoir - Stainless steel high pressure and return hoses ready. If you want to keep the color - just buff out a few minor scratches to the clearcoat that have occurred from being in the garage for a few years with kids. I planned on having it repainted when road-ready again so I wasn't too anal about protecting it.Complete VintageAir compressor/hose installFront and rear windows were reinstalled after the paint - the rear needs to be reseated because it leaks a little in the trunk when I wash it.The trunk was painted over with bubbles on the driver side and the trunk fin has some rough patch that was painted over - like I said it wasn't a big deal to me since I planned on repainting anyways. The current radiator and fans that will work just fine, but I'd recommend upgrading it to a higher-end complete integrated fan/radiator.rear window ledgesome odds and ends need to be reinstalled if your not going paint. I left some things off for post-paint.I can't include all the parts but here are the major items done to the car: Complete Vintage Air Gen-IV system (hoses and compressor not installed yet and in box).Sound proofing of horizontal and vertical surfaces Dynamat-like material and Acousiblock installed on inside of door panels which eliminates tin sounding door closes and a lot of road noise from undereath the vehicle.New Cragar Rims and Tires with < 100 Miles. Entire car has been on jack stands 2011-2016.Thousands of dollars of new trim pieces, bulbs, gaskets, handles, etc. LED tail lights with new bezels. The bezels from Firewheel Classics look like they were spray painted flat black inside and the black is peeling off - not sure what to recommend as an alternative but they're fine as is.New Fuel tank, high pressure pump and hard lines to support Fuel Injected LT1BODY - new door skins, new rockers, quarter panels, rear wheel panels, trunk panel, side trunk panels, dash top panel, all floor panels, 21 new panels total.Headliner - installed but needs completing with dome light. Was holding off in case I needed to remove for final paint.radio with Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000 new exhaust systemWindows tinted
