We have owned it since new (14 years now) and put a modest amount of miles on it (67,464). My wife drove it from high school up until recently (it was under her parent's name at the beginning, then her own, which shows as two owners). It was maintained either at the dealership, reputable independent shops, or by myself (a detail-oriented automotive enthusiast). There is a small stack of repair records in the trunk, and I have kept detailed records of my own repairs. The water pump was upgraded to a metal impeller unit to avoid that high-failure issue. The timing belt is relatively new (maybe 15k miles old) and was replaced when the water pump was installed. The air conditioning got completely overhauled last summer including a new A/C compressor. The A/C blows cold, and is ready to go another ~14 years. Admittedly, the car has some issues (explained below), so I've tried to touch on every single little issue. If I haven't mentioned it, you can assume it is in excellent condition and excellent working order. There is no rust anywhere on the vehicle, and while it has been in one collision, there is no sign of it (the rear driver's side was hit some 10 years ago). This car has been and should be very reliable mechanically. I would not hesitate to take the car across the country. However, German cars are known for small eletrical gremlins, and cosmetically the car is showing some age. I would give it an 8/10 on the exterior and maybe a 6/10 on the interior. See the "known issues" below, it's all explained there. This car, with it's excellent safety rating and mechanical reliablilty would be great for a first-time driver. It will teach them a valuable, unique skill (how to drive a manual transmission), while keeping them engaged in the act of driving and hopefully keep their hands busy enough to avoid looking at their phone. =D We have the free and clear title in hand, and are ready to sell. Known Issues Small dent in front-driver's side bumper (Pic) Small dent in driver's side lower side skirt (Pic) Tear in front passenger's side lower fascia (Pic) Fading/faded exterior VW badges/emblems (Pic 1 2) Both driver's side and passenger's side outside seat bolsters show wear (Pic 1 2) Headliner needs replacement, is currently held up with color-matched thumb tacks (Pic) Left turn signal activates at double-speed. (All signal lights work. Changing all left side bulbs to same brand is likely solution.) Check Engine Light is on, throwing code for oxygen sensor or catalytic converter Airbag light is on The passenger-side door locks don't always lock, or unlock when told to do so by the key-fob or interior lock buttons The parking break button is missing the OEM trim (Pic) The driver's floor mat has a small hole where the driver's heal rests (Pic) One of the hub caps is missing the VW emblem from the center (Pic) The manual shift gate is missing an isolation damper (affects shift feel a little, otherwise a non-issue) The second aux power outlet in the center console toward the rear has the cover missing and a chip in the console (Pic) The tires have some life left, but most would want to replace them soon The original clutch grabs very well, but may need replacement soon given the mileage of the car Payment details A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due via PayPal within 24 hours of purchase. The remaining balance is due upon vehicle pick-up, which can be cash or a bank-certified check drawn on the day of pick-up with the seller in attendence at the bank branch when the check is created. If paying by bank-certified check, the seller will make arrangements to meet at the bank branch of your choosing as long as it is a reasonable distance from Columbis, SC (~15 miles or so). Shipping details The buyer assumes all responsibility for picking up the vehicle, or arranging shipping. The seller is willing to travel ~15 miles to meet and deliver the vehicle.
