This was NOT done by some kid in his back yard. It was done by the leading Volvo repair shop in the Southwest; they have done work for my Volvo specialty dealership for the last 25 years. It was done as a filler project during the winter slow months. However, business has been great and it has never really slowed down enough for them to finish it. Their loss is your gain. I would say that 80% of the HARD and EXPENSIVE (over $20K invested) work has been completed and the big money already spent. Starting with an original unmolested Volvo 242 body they installed a newly rebuilt Chevy 327 engine stroked to a 302 CI and a Holley 650cfm carburetor. The motor was built to be fun, however, not at the expense of being unreliable (it's a Volvo after all...). It starts easy and idles smoothly, the exhaust is throaty, but, not annoyingly loud. A Muncie M-22 4 speed transmission with a Wilwood hydraulic clutch and a short throw Hurst Shifter was installed and shifts smoothly. NEW aluminum radiator with two electronically controlled fans. Custom drive shaft and single drive belt conversion with NEW power steering pump, water pump, A/C compressor, and Alternator installed. A custom exhaust was installed with headers and Flowmaster dual inlet muffler NEW Volvo diesel engine front springs were installed to accommodate the additional weight of the V8 and new struts were installed. A new rear sway bar was installed. It has Volvo disc brakes at all four corners and Volvo turbo wheels. The car handles well with no odd clunks or rattles. NEW Autometer gauges were installed and all function as they should including turn signals and e-brake indicators. As you can see all the hard work and expenses have already been done, however, there is still some tinkering to be done. Although the A/C compressor is new, there will have to be some hoses made for it to function (correct compressor manifold included). The body and paint are all original with no evidence of any accident damage. New Mexico is a dry climate so rust is not really an issue here, however, there is one quarter size blister on one rocker panel (see picture). Depending on rather you want a Sleeper or a Pro Tourer this is the car, nice and straight. It runs, shifts and handles and stops great. As it is now it is an unbelievable sleeper; at stop lights people are looking around to see where that tame but lethal rumble is coming from. At Show and Shines it is a total hit with the hot rodders. Feel free to contact me with questions. There are additional pictures and we are trying to get a video posted to my website @ volvoguy.com so you can hear this car run. They are realistic about their reserve, so, bid it to own it.
