Vehicle Detail

This spectacular motorcycle is an over-restored 1982 Honda CBX 1000 Super Sport. As you probably already know, it is an awesome ride that is very sought after and hard to find. You would most certainly be hard pressed to find one in this condition. This CBX went through a frame off restoration just last year. There have only been about 650 miles put on it since then. All the metal parts were powder coated gloss black. The engine was painted gloss black while it was out of the bike. The wheels were polished and painted gloss black. Many other parts were polished or chromed. The paint is all new and done by a professional auto body shop at a cost of $2700. Pistol Pete, a well-known restorer of old Honda parts refurbished the gauges at a cost of $380. Mike Nixon, the guru of CBX carburetor fame completely rebuilt the carbs at a cost of over $1000. Look for these guys on the Internet and you will find out they are the best at what they do. I put on a new Delkevic factory replica exhaust system. Cost way too much ($1300) but I had to do it since the rest of the restoration was so perfect. New Continental tires, new EBC brake pads front and rear, brake lines, new windshield, new grips, new front springs, new Shorai lithium battery and a new air cleaner. There are other small bits and pieces here and there that are new as well. The bike runs and functions perfectly. Smooth with lots of power. All the gauges, lights, clock and switches work. One key opens the helmet lock, saddlebags and starts the bike. It truly is a joy to ride. Fact of the matter is that I am really torn about selling it. I spent 6 solid months restoring this bike so it is hard to let it go. However, I’m a serial bike restorer/builder and I just don’t have the space or money to keep them all. So, this magnificent machine has to go. (frown) If you are looking for a period correct bike this one is not for you. It has a 1981 CBX paint job on a 1982 bike because I liked the way the ’81 black/gunmetal paint looked compared the blue/white ’82 version. All the gloss black and chrome is much shinier and brighter than the factory finishes. In my opinion, it is a stunning rendition but it is not like it left the factory. Now you need to note some things before you choose to make a bid. This CBX is in tip top shape but it is not new. It is 35 years old and has 27,526 miles on it. As you would expect, some of the original parts show some subtle signs of age here and there. There is a slight separation on the seat cover. See the picture. The thermometer moves but does not report an accurate temperature. For whatever reason the bike spits out a little fluid when it is parked after a ride. Just a few drops. I think it is gas out of the carb overflow tubes but I’m not sure. It starts easily if it is ridden every few days. However, if it sits for a week or more it takes some effort to get it going. That is not unique to this bike. It is common to all CBX’s. In fact, Mike Nixon has even published a starting procedure because of it. The gas evaporates from the carbs after it sits awhile and they have to be re-primed before it will start. But it always starts. So, there you go. How much is it going to sell for? Needless to say, I don't know but it will most likely sell for a lot less money than I have in it. If you are looking for a CBX that will be the talk of your town...have at it! Let me know if you have any questions. The bike will be available for pickup or shipment as soon as I have received cleared funds in my bank account. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and handling costs. FYI - I will not sell the bike prior to the end of the auction. On Jun-05-17 at 09:25:41 PDT, seller added the following information: I will also send along the original owners manual and a factory shop manual too. In addition, just to make it very clear the title is clean with no liens on it so I can do the transaction as soon as I receive the money. Thanks for considering the purchase of my CBX. It is very much appreciated.
