Of the 980 originally sold, there are probably less than 600 registered today. Higher quality, more interior room and better mileage than newer TDIs, this TDI gets 45 to 55 mpg, or 1000 -1300 miles per tank! This model & body style (B4V) came exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission and the legendary AHU 1.9 Turbo Diesel engine, arguably the best TDI motor ever produced by VW. This drivetrain has proven to be one of the most efficient and reliable VW has ever made. A huge 25-gallon tank and a larger interior cargo volume than any of the newer wagons make this a legendary find. All 1996-97 Passat TDIs were built in Germany. A real-life Wolfsburg Edition as most of the newer VWs are built in South America and Mexico. This beauty was originally purchased brand new in December of 1996 in Idaho Falls, ID by our Grandmother. She wasn’t comfortable driving in the snow or rain, so the car never saw wet conditions. When she passed away, we inherited the car and drove it weekly in Las Vegas while storing in the garage when not in use. It has an original 88,000 miles on the odometer. The car is now in Southern California enjoying the sunny skies and smooth roads. Clean and clear title. We have the original owner’s manual and window sticker (see photos) as well as the original key and one spare. The original spare tire and CD changer are intact and virtually unused. The car runs amazingly well, the low mileage engine runs like a champ. This car is in excellent condition and receives regular maintenance and love. New tires. This B4V is immaculate inside and out (please see photos) with the entire Sahara cloth interior intact, no stains, no tears and everything is operational. The original Passat floor mats and accordion-style rear cargo cover are also included, but not pictured. The Indian Red Pearl (LC3T) exterior is equally stunning, with no clearcoat peel and no color fading. A handful of minor scratches are the only blemishes to the paint. The car has been professionally detailed and looks brand new. All door handles and exterior trim work properly and are original. The engine bay is clean (although not steam-cleaned) and ready for your inspection. High survival rate due to passionate responsible ownership. This car is a rare jewel. We’ve read it can run on both bio-diesel and regular diesel without switching any hoses. Half a tank of biodiesel can be topped up with regular diesel.
