Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1985 Nissan 720 4x4 King Cab truck. I will do my best to fully describe the truck as accurately as possible. I bought this truck in 2007 from a guy who I believe said that his grandfather bought it new and then passed it down to him when he was in high school I think. It still had and still has all of the import and purchase paperwork in the glove box. This is the ST or Sport Truck model and is the top of the line Nissan 4x4 for that year (sun roof, power windows, etc). The truck was repainted the original blue color before I bought it and they painted over the ST decal on the bed, but in the light you can still see under the paint. After I bought it I replaced the crappy factory carb with a really nice big Weber 38/38 carb which was a big improvement. I also replaced the stock torsion bars with some much nicer after market torsion bars which leveled the front with the back, but did not alter the correct front suspension A-arm angles. It has a nice aggressive stance with the aftermarket 15" x 7" wheels and 235/75/15 all terrain tires. The exhaust system has been replaced from the engine back, starting with the pacesetter headers. The rear frame cross-member has been recently professionally replaced and welded with a much beefier one. The original one was rusted from where the spare tire was stored up against it for 25 years. At that time my friend also went through and cleaned up the surface rust along the frame area under the bed and repainted/sealed it. The rear bumper is made out of 1/4" rectangular steel and is welded directly to the frame and is super strong and has a 2" receiver welded into it. The engine is the 2.4 liter Z engine and has never had a problem that I know of. The truck came with automatic hubs, but I didn't like them and replaced them with manual hubs which you know will work every time. The seats have been replaced with seats out of a sentra and sit up high which gives great visibility. It has the little folding jump seats and seat belts in the back king cab area. Truck also has a brand new battery. I used it primarily for hauling firewood from 2007-2010 at which point I sold it to my friend who used it occasionally for his short commute to work or to transport bikes to ride trails. I think between the two of us we've only put 15,000 miles on it in the last 10 years. The truck runs good. Starts right up and runs. However, as it is over 32 years old now, it does have some issues. First, it needs all new brake lines. One line had rusted through and the others are on the verge. We've replaced the leaking one with a new section of line, so that the brakes technically do work now and the truck can drive around, but all the lines really need to be replaced before its driven regularly. In the process of bleeding the brakes, the two bleeder nipples broke off the rear drums, so those need to be replaced as well. The master cylinder has been replaced as has the emergency brake cable, but the rest of the system will need to be replaced. Second, there is some noise coming from the transmission. I'm pretty positive that it is the input shaft bearing as the noise disappears in 4th gear (1:1 ratio). Those are the two big things. I'm sure you would find more to do if you drove it regularly, but with those two things fixed I think you would be in pretty good shape. There is some rust through one side of the fender above one rear wheel and the other side is bubbled up but not rusted through yet. I think its leaking a little water somewhere around the windshield, so that might need some silicone somewhere. The sunroof works and doesn't leak though. If you aren't familiar with the 720 trucks, let me just say they are TOUGH TOUGH trucks. I'll include a picture of this truck loaded with oak logs. note that its not even sagging. I would take this truck hauling firewood with a friend who had an early 90's toyota truck. This nissan truck was WAY tougher and better at hauling wood or rocks than was his truck. He was always perplexed about why my truck could haul so much more than could his truck. I love these old compact trucks. This nissan is also a little trimmer than the toyota trucks, and went really well down narrow forest trails. This is just a very simple super cool tough old japanese truck. No silly plastic bumpers or trim or anything on it. Its an old truck and needs some work, but I think with a little work it has some life left yet. The nissan 720 trucks are getting pretty hard to find also. Please ask questions. Truck is located in Cumberland county Virginia and probably should be towed away due to the brake line issue. The roof rack (Yakima 1A gutter mounts with cross bars) does not come with the auction, but we'll leave them on if you pay the 'buy it now' price. No reserve. $500 deposit due within 24 hours of auction end, remainder due in person when you come to pick it up.
