2003 BMW 540iAT M Sport Wagon (A= Automatic, T= Touring) Background: 2003 marked the end of the BMW E39 (1995-2003 5-Series) platform. The E39s and E38s (1995-2001 7-Series) are considered by many to be the best-looking and best -handling BMWs ever produced. 2003 is the only year that the 540iT M Sport Wagon was produced. 69 of these M Sport Wagons were manufactured for U.S. sale. All units were option-loaded (56 had Navigation, I was told). Note: Not really a necessity in Phoenix where I live. Car was purchased by me in Southern CA so suspect exposure to snow and salt was rare at best. Rear Window Manual Sunshades Rear Side Airbags - Note: unsure if these have been disconnected. BMW now recommends disconnection of rear side airbags due to airbag impact on infant car seats if secured next to doors. 12-Way Power Memory Sport Seats 17" M DPS (Double Parallel Spoke) Wheels - Rare 6-Disc CD Changer in Left Rear Compartment Factory Powered Subwoofer in Right Rear Compartment I have owned this car since September 2010. At that time, it had 115,000 miles on the odometer, so I have put approximately 35K miles on it in 7 years, almost all of it highway miles traveling to northern AZ and back. Vehicle has not been modified at all with the exception that I replaced the OEM front chrome grilles with black chrome grilles for a more sporty (sinister) look. Original grilles will be supplied with vehicle. I can honestly say that, to my knowledge, all buttons, switches, and lights work as designed. A common problem with all E39 and E38 BMWs was the pixel display in the odometer, outside temperature, and Message Center. This car was no exception. The pixel problem was fixed 2-3 years ago and works perfectly. BMW no longer sells the intensive windshield washing fluid (the car has 2 washer fluid reservoirs and 4 washer fluid pumps) It was an organic solvent that probably wasn't good for the atmosphere. Anyway, I load the intensive fluid reservoir with "bug" washer fluid. Interior is in very good condition. No cracks in console wood. No accidents to my knowledge. I would rate the exterior as a 9 out of 10. A few rock chips, (hood has a protective film on it for first foot or so), minor wheel rash, NO rust. Car is equipped with ultra-high performance tires and Hawk HPS (High Performance Street) brake pads. Car has always been garaged and will not be driven much henceforth due to anticipated sale. One Last Note: BMW has issued a recall on this car for the airbag inflators (please read news on Takata). I have not had this service done yet.
