Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1995 840Ci. Cosmos black exterior on black leather interior. I bought this as a project about a year ago and have put a good amount of time and money into it making it a fun to drive car. Now it's time for me to move onto other things. The car drives well, looks good and is a unique part of automotive history. Back in the day, this car was the "flagship" of the BMW line and sold for about $80,000. The "cool" factor hasn't diminished at all. Every time I fill up with gas or park somewhere, I get people coming over and asking about it. Recent upgrades include new rims and tires, a rebuilt front suspension/steering rack, new stainless steel brake lines and painted calipers. I replaced the old "tractor" style steering wheel with a recovered M style 3 spoke wheel. The headliner was recently redone in grey suede and looks new. I replaced both batteries (yes, it takes two!) The interior leather is in great shape with minimal wear for a 22 year old car. It has a new Pioneer flip up screen stereo with bluetooth, DVD, rear view camera, etc. as well as powered subwoofer in the trunk allow you to crank the tunes while cruising the freeway. The sound system really sounds great.Dual zone AC/Climate control blows cold. The trip computer LCD screen was replaced (common issue) and has a warranty.Recently had a full tune up/maintenance including oil change, new spark plugs, and new valve cover gaskets. New fuel filter. New brake pads as well. The car has a salvage title from a rear end accident that happened with a prior owner. There is no visible damage. The car drives "straight" and tight. I am an honest person and believe in disclosing any and all issues to prospective buyers. When buying online, that is of the utmost importance. Here are the issues/imperfections of which I am aware: 1. There is a small oil leak. I'm not sure where it comes from (probably valve cover) but the oil drips on the exhaust. When at a stop light, there can be an oil burning smell in the cabin. It is small enough that you don't smell it when you are moving. Probably an easy fix but I haven't had time. The car burns about a quart of oil every 1000-1200 miles.2. The cruise control doesn't work. Not sure if there is a fuse issue or if the whole unit needs replacing. There are some online places that will service/repair these units for a reasonable cost. I generally don't use cruise control so I haven't done it.4. The driver's seat up and down function has the known "seat tilt" issue. There are online discussions of how to repair it. It goes front and back fine without problems.5. The alarm had this odd habit of "falsing" from time to time (also a known issue). I just unplugged the horn to avoid making the neighbors upset. 6. The sunroof operates in "sliding" mode but the up down feature doesn't work. Again I never use sunroofs that way.7. The windshield washer needs repair. A couple of the little hoses near the nozzle are broken. The washer pump may need replacing (a $15 item)8. Every so often the odometer LED will go dark for a minute or so and then come back on.9. There is a squeaking noise that seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. More audible when the car hasn't been driven for a bit. I'm not sure if the wheel bearing might need replacing soon or if maybe the brake dust cover is rubbing slightly. Can't hear it with the radio on. 10. The rear half of the car has been repainted. Although it looks good, and has a nice finish, there are a few imperfections. There is a minimally visible difference in color between the original front paint and the repainted rear half. Only noticeable on a sunny day with the car sparkling clean. This is NOT a concourse car. It is in pretty good shape for being 22 years old and has relatively low mileage. This is a car that you can drive around town and turn heads while at the same time not really have to worry about parking on the street or in a crowded lot. During the time I've owned it, the car has been reliable and always starts right up.Overall a really unique, cool car to look at and drive. The minor issues I have mentioned above don't require immediate attention and could most likely be addressed for a relatively small outlay of money. I reserve the right to end the auction early as I have it posted for sale locally. Please feel free to email me with questions or if you want more detailed pictures of something in particular. Good luck and thanks for looking!!!
