Vehicle Detail
Offered for sale is a 2000 BMW 740i, e38 body style with 180,000 miles. I have owned this car for 10 years and it has been a faithful daily driver for me until it recently developed what I believe to be a problem with the transmission. Unfortunately given other current demands, I do not have the time to fix the car and instead must replace it. The car is currently not drivable and would need to be transported to its final destination. The car has minimal forward capabilities and only works once the transmission goes into failsafe mode, 4th gear. Reverse works as it should. Transmission aside, the car runs well. As far as I know, there are no outstanding items to be addressed for the engine. The engine is strong with plenty of torque as you would expect. The engine does not smoke and I've never noticed oil consumption between changes. The engine runs smoothly with no misses or hesitations. Prior to the transmission failure, the service engine light was not on. Currently the only code displayed I believe is related to the transmission failure.I have done many recent repairs, many of which are major and address many of the known problem areas of these cars. Recent repairs (in the last year or so) include: new windshield and cowl, brake fluid flush, replaced front and rear wheel well liners (these are plastic and deteriorate with age), new front and rear tires (8,000 miles on them), front fog lights replaced, changed transmission fluid and filter, and, of course, engine oil and filter changes. Additionally, I replaced the timing chain guides and all that goes along with that about 15,000 miles ago. The guides are plastic and known to wear, so they were preventatively replaced. Along with the guides, all three timing chains were replaced, the VANOS system rebuilt, water pump replaced, all coolant hoses, radiator, fan shroud, heater hoses, water coolant thermostat, and oil cooler thermostat were replaced. The full OSV system was replaced as were the valley pan and cover, intake manifold gaskets, fuel injector gaskets, and valve cover gaskets. For brakes and suspension, the brakes are firm and work as they should. I recently replaced the brake fluid which improved the brake feel considerably and should help extend the life of the brake components by removing the older fluid which over times attracts water. A common suspension problem in these cars is a front end shimmy, especially when braking which is due to worn front end components, especially the thrust arms. I've replace all the front end components, and there are no shakes or shimmies. The suspension was re-aligned when I replaced the tires (8,000 miles ago), so that is current as well. I've replaced all four struts with Bilstein components rather than the stock Sachs, which improved the ride quality in my opinion. The only options purchased on this car when new were the rear window shade and the M-Parallel wheels. The AC and heat both work, and the automatic climate control maintains the interior temperature well. This auction is for the entire car and any extra new and used parts I have accumulated that are vehicle specific including power steering hoses, radiator, coolant hoses, and a Bentley manual. I am also offering the vehicle for sale locally and reserve the right to end the listing early for a local purchase. One request--if you are a new ebay user or have zero feedback, please contact me through messenger, email, or by telephone prior to or immediately after bidding. I've had trouble with scammers bidding or making offers with no intention of completing the purchase--this is not fair to anyone involved. If you have no feedback, bid, and I don't hear from you I will have to cancel your bid until I hear from you. Sorry for the extra step, but this will help ensure a fair bidding process. If you would like to purchase this vehicle, please contact me so we can discuss shipping and payment options. apitman2001@yahoo.com or 985-250-1040.
