Vehicle Detail

I am listing this 1964 Ford Thunderbird for sale for friends of mine who have owned it for the past two years. They've purchased another vehicle and do not have the garage space to keep this Southern California beauty. I'm not a Ford expert, Oldsmobile is my drug of choice, but seems to be a super clean and-well kept car that could be enjoyed as is. I've been driving the car off and on for the past two weeks, so will do my best to describe what I see. I've taken lots of photos of the car, but ebay limits us to 24. I have photos of the undercarriage and many more from other angles on shutterfly, just shoot me a message and I can share the link with you. Engine/powertrain: Car seems to start easily on warm days, it is a little fussier with the choke on colder days. Engine runs nice and quietly with no knocks, noises, or lifter tapping. Shifts smoothly into reverse and through all forward gears. I notice a few drips of oil under the car when it is parked, but not enough to be alarmed about. Car has four drum brakes, seems to stop evenly and without pulling to either side. Car goes down the road fairly straight without correction, feels typical for a car of its age.Tires all look to be in decent shape with tread left, am not sure of the age of them. Interior: The interior appears to me to be mostly original. I think the front seat bottoms may have been repaired at some point, as the stitching does not quite match in color, but I am being a little picky about it. Headliner looks to be original with no discoloration/sagging. stains, passenger side sunvisor is a little warped, steering wheel has some cracking and loss of the silver band in wheel, swing away wheel works okay, both door handles open and close easily from inside or out, door locks operate, latch on console compartment works okay, ashtray is clean, but cigarette lighter is missing, gang switch for windows operates front windows, rear windows to not seem to be operable using gang switch or rear seat switches, power driver's seat is a two-way, and does not appear to function, both wind wings open and close easily with cranks, car is equipped with factory cruise control, which does not seem to function, is factory AC equipped, all AC components are under the hood, but does not come on, fan works on all three speeds, defroster, vent, heater all work, manual fresh air vents work, wipers work, windshield washers do not seem to work (possibly because bag is not installed, but replacement is in trunk), all interior courtesy lights and door lights seem to work, and dash lights and gauges seem to function, factory AM/FM radio works, rear seat upholstery is in great shape, carpet is in good shape, original Thunderbird floor mats are in good shape, wood veneer (or is it an artificial?) shows wear, interior chrome all seems to be very presentable, rear package tray is clean, glass all seems clear and no pits or cracks are present. While driving, I don't notice any rattles or squeaks. The console arm rest has a split in the seam. Exterior: Car seems to have lived in Southern California all its life and appears to have always been garaged. Paint seems like an older (maybe ten years?) repaint, but has a great shine and has a nice quality to it. There are a few chips, most noticeable in rear passenger quarter along upper leading edge of contour line, along middle of this panel, and along top of the skirt on same side. Driver's door also has a chip near handle and at lower contour line of door. I only note one metal defect and that is lower rear valance on passenger side has a couple of 'pull outs' along lower edge. Hood opens and closes early with latch, both doors open and close easily, both door handles lock and unlock with original keys, decklid opens and closes easily with original keys, vinyl landau top has no visible tears or flaws, landau bars are in good shape, bumpers are both in nice shape, all chrome in great shape around windows, Thunderbird scripts are nice and pit free, plastic insert in rear bumper is crackled with age, Thunderbird plastic insert in landau bar is crackled with age. Seems like a ten-footer- could easily take to a car show and not be embarrassed. It's a beautiful driver that is a blast to drive. Please make all inspections and inquiries prior to bidding, car is located in Palm Springs California, and am happy to show the car. There are no expressed or implied warranties with this car. It is sold as is, and it is 53 years old, and not a new car by any means. I have tried to describe the car to the best of my ability, and all buyers are encouraged to inspect in person prior to purchase. Car is for sale locally and auction may end early.
