Vehicle Detail

Car is being offered with free delivery. For details and conditions, see the terms of the offer at the end of the listing. This auction is for a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS finished in Steel Gray Metallic with the Gray velour interior. It is powered by a 162 horsepower 2.4 liter DOHC 16-valve all aluminum 4 cylinder engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output, excellent economy and inherent smoothness. Code named Theta, this engine features an aluminum engine block and head for light weight and maximum heat dissipation, a balance shaft for smoothness, dual overhead cams with CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) for maximum power output at all engine speeds, a steel timing chain for reduced maintenance instead of a rubber timing belt found in many other cars that need periodic replacement, multiport fuel injection for excellent gas mileage, drive by wire throttle for precise engine control and coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions. The engine is mated to an automatic transmission that has a manual Sports mode along with an all-season electronic traction control system (can be turned off with a switch in the dash) that lets you drive through snow and ice covered roads in the winter and mud or sand year round with confidence. In Sports mode, you move the shifter from the “D” position to the right into the manual gate, then you can tap the lever forward or backward to upshift and downshift through the gears to give more precise control on winding and hilly roads. It will automatically drop back down to first gear when you come to a stop if you forget. Rounding out the Sonata are a suspension and brakes designed to give a smooth yet controlled ride. Start off with a rigid chassis and unit body construction for a stiff foundation and add in a four-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the rear as well as anti-roll bars all around. Add rack and pinion steering and 16 inch low profile Continental tires for precise handling. For secure braking there are 4 wheel discs with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) for maximum control in all road conditions along with an Electronic Stability Control program (ESC) that uses the components from the ABS system and the electronic throttle to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement. This generation of Sonata is code named the NF body and is classified by the EPA as a “large” car, yet because of the relatively low 3,200 pound weight, it can get very good gas mileage. With a little moderation of driving habits, some drivers can get close to 40 mpg on the highway. And this car runs great on regular gas. If you frequently carry passengers, those who sit in the back will enjoy the extensive legroom that similar cars can’t match. Both mechanically and stylistically the Hyundai Sonata has earned the reputation of becoming one of the best values among vehicles in its class.  The Sonata’s exterior style is quite attractive. From its smooth lines and sweeping aerodynamic curves incorporating elements from premium European sports sedans, it looks handsome from any angle without being flashy. The best comparison to the Sonata’s styling would be Audi’s A4 and A6 models of the same year. Start up front with its rounded bumper and an upper black honeycomb grille and a secondary lower air intake grille.  Notice the clear lens projector beam headlights and how aerodynamically they blend into the body. Next, look at the hood with its creased character lines and fenders that have a hint of flaring that add an aggressive look. The steeply raked windshield and slab side doors flow into smooth curves along the sides of the car with body colored door handles, mirrors and moldings for a euro chic monochromatic look. Then, going back, the cars’ lines meld smoothly over the top to a low-profile roof mounted antenna at the back, onto the steeply raked rear window, then into a short trunk lid surrounded by large taillights, while the bumper has a smooth shape to reduce wind resistance and smooth airflow away from the body. The exterior is beautiful to look at, but the interior design is handsome as well. Get in and sit down into a bucket seat that adjusts to the perfect driving position with settings for height adjustment and recline. Check out how comfortable the cushions feel along with the plush velour upholstery. Then adjust the tilt leather wrapped steering wheel to achieve complete driving control. Notice how the thickly padded rim affords just the right grip and that the cruise control switches are just a fingertip away. A two-tone nautical blue over gray interior color scheme adds visual appeal. Next, look ahead at the instrument cluster with the large easy to read tachometer and 150 mph speedometer. If it’s nighttime, turn on the lights and see how all the switches in the dash and doors are backlighted for easy identification. Look right and left at brushed aluminum trim on the doors and center console as well as on the climate controls and shifter surround. Not only is the styling very handsome, but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the plush weave of the velour upholstery, the graining pattern on the dash and door panels, or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash, everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive car. This Sonata is fully equipped with all the desirable safety, comfort and convenience features and equipment including: 162 H.P. 2.4 liter DOHC 16-valve engine Automatic transmission with manual mode Air conditioning with cabin air filter Power windows with one-touch express down and up for drivers window Power door locks Cruise control Tilt steering wheel Leather wrapped steering wheel Steering wheel mounted cruise controls Factory stereo with CD/MP3 player XM satellite radio Roof mounted low-profile antenna Premium velour cloth upholstery Reclining front bucket seats with drivers height adjustment Dual front seatback storage pockets Front door panel storage compartments Body color exterior mirrors, side moldings and door handles Center console with dual cup holders, storage compartments and two 12V power outlets Front center arm rest Front overhead mini console with map lights and storage compartment Dome light with theater dimming Instrument cluster with 150 MPH speedometer, tachometer and dual trip odometers Illuminated cockpit switches and controls Four overhead passenger assist handles 60/40 split fold-down rear seat backs that open to the trunk area Rear fold-down center armrest with dual cup holders Remote keyless entry with trunk release Integrated switchblade remote flip keys Factory alarm system Tinted glass Intermittent wipers Dual power heated outside rear view mirrors Dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors Sunvisors with pull-out sun block extensions Hyundai “H” logo pinstripes Clear lens projector beam headlights Rear window defroster Remote trunk lid and fuel door release Tethered gas cap with cap holder in fuel door Trunk compartment light and two grocery bag hooks Trunk lid liner and interior release handle Insulated hood liner 5-mph impact absorbing bumpers Front and rear stabilizer bars 4 wheel anti-lock disk brakes (ABS) Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Advanced Dual Stage front airbags with passenger sensor Front seat side airbags Front and rear head curtain airbags Seat belt pre-tensioners Active head restraints LATCH® System rear child seat anchors And many more items too numerous to mention. The majority of the damage was to the front bumper and hood. I installed a replacement bumper and hood of the identical color so that the car doesn’t have any paintwork, as well as a replacement bumper beam. The fenders had slight damage at the front, but in order preserve as much of the originality of the car and to keep the original paint, they were pressed back into shape by hand and the remaining imperfections are minimal and don’t stand out. The car was then inspected by the Maryland state police for proper repairs in their salvage inspection system, after which, it got a clear Maryland title with a notation for “REBUILT SALVAGE,” and can now be titled and registered in any state. CLICK HERE to see the title. Keep in mind that it takes very little damage on an older car for it to be declared salvage compared to a later model. If a two year old car worth $20,000 has a fender bender causing $4,000 in damage, it will be repaired. If a ten year old car worth $6,000 has the same damage, it will likely be salvaged by the insurance company. Don’t worry too much about the salvage history, remember, you are buying a car, not a piece of paper. It’s certainly not as significant on a 9 year old vehicle as it would be on a two or three year old model, and it won’t be significant at all a few years later when you go to sell it. The car is in very nice condition inside and out. It has a straight body with just a few minor touched-up scratches and blemishes you would normally expect on a used car. The paint itself is beautiful and shiny and this Steel Gray metallic paint just about glows in the sunlight. It has just been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish and topped off with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic wax for a high gloss shine. All the glass, moldings, trim and emblems are excellent. I checked the car out top to bottom and found no evidence of any other damage. In fact, it still has the original VIN stickers on all body panels except the hood and front bumper as mentioned previously. Left fender: Right fender: Left front door: Right front door: Left rear door: Right rear door: Left side panel: Right side panel: Trunk lid: Rear bumper: The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no cracks, rips or tears or any significant signs of wear. The car doesn‘t appear to have been smoked in. In fact, it’s not even equipped with a lighter. The trunk area looks like it was hardly used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine runs strong and feels smooth at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range and it starts instantly whether hot or cold. The transmission shifts precisely at all speeds. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has a set of four identical like new premium Continental ContiProContact tires. These tires combine a high performance tread design, exceptional all-season wet/dry traction, extended comfort, excellent handling and superior tread life with a 540 treadwear rating. The spare tire and jack doesn’t look like they have ever been used. The car has been fully checked out and serviced with over $2,000 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original Hyundai or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. Some of the items checked or serviced include:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     New Mobil 1 oil change New Hyundai oil filter Recent Hyundai air filter New NPN cabin air filter New throttle body cleaning New MAF sensor cleaning Excellent Denso Iridium spark plugs Excellent Interstate battery New coolant flush with distilled water New Hyundai Long Life coolant change Recent front brake pads Recent front brake rotors Recent rear brake pads Recent rear brake rotors New Valvoline Synthetic Dot 4 brake fluid flush and change New Hyundai SP-III transmission fluid change New Trico wiper blades New Hyundai drivers sunvisor Recent set of four Continental tires Photos of some of the parts replaced and service done: Oil change: Oil filter: Air filter: Cabin air filter: Throttle body cleaning: MAF sensor cleaning: Spark plugs with the proper amount of anti-seize on the threads: Battery: Coolant flush until water drains clear: Front brake pads: Front brake rotors, 26mm new 24mm minimum: Rear brake pads: Rear brake rotors, 10mm new 8mm minimum: Brake fluid flush and change:                            Transmission fluid change: Transmission fluid: The cost new of this Sonata was over $19,500. CLICK HERE to see the original pricing. This is a one owner car from Maryland which is probably why it’s so clean. The car comes with all the books: and two switchblade remote keys and an emergency wallet key: If you are serious about buying a NF body Sonata, this is about as low as they go with such low mileage. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this car you won’t have to spend $1,000 or more on paint or bodywork to fix scratched bumpers or a dented panel, you won’t have to spend $500 for a new set of tires, you won’t have to spend $400 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $400 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a coolant and brake flush, you won’t have to spend $300 on a tune-up and filters service, and you won’t have to spend $300 on any upcoming scheduled maintenance. With many of the other listings on Ebay, Craigslist or on dealers lots, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery. If you are looking for a nice super low mileage Sonata in good condition at a low price, then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private.” Also, because my reserve is close to the Buy It Now price, don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B.I.N., especially if you need it delivered. TERMS OF THE AUCTION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Since this vehicle may be advertised locally, auction can be canceled at any time (unless auction ended early with BUY IT NOW) due to prior sale without liability to any bidder. A down payment of $500 (plus any additional delivery charge) is required within 3 days of the close of the auction, balance due in cash on delivery or certified funds on delivery if I deliver it or you pick it up, or before it’s dropped off at the transporter if a shipping company is transporting it, but no later than 7 days after the close of the auction without prior agreement. I accept bank or certified checks, money orders, credit cards through PayPal (accepted for down payment only). If paying balance with funds other than cash, buyer to fax copy of monetary instrument no less than 24 hours before picking up vehicle. The vehicle is sold as is. Buyer is welcome to inspect vehicle BEFORE the end of the auction or to have someone check it out on your behalf provided you authorize whoever is checking the vehicle to provide me with a copy of the results. I have tried to accurately describe this vehicle, both mechanically and cosmetically but you can expect a certain amount of minor flaws on ANY used car including squeaks, rattles, drips, nicks, chips, scratches, blemishes and any other marks that are consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections, however, I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description. Also remember that a vehicle is made up of thousands of mechanical parts and components and in an older or higher mileage used vehicle a part that is working fine now may go bad the next day, in a week, or a month from now. It’s nearly impossible to tell when a particular part or component will fail as most don’t exhibit prior symptoms, however, proper preventative maintenance as this vehicle has received, can prevent most problems or breakdowns from happening. In fairness to all bidders the reserve price will not be disclosed so please don’t even ask. Buyer responsible for transportation and vehicle must be paid for in full before it can be released. May deliver. Email or call for delivery quote or for any other questions. atikovi@email.com Maryland and District of Columbia dealer. Phone 202-246-5201. Please do not bid if you don’t intend to buy. FREE DELIVERY TERMS: Free delivery within 500 miles of the Washington DC area if bidder purchases vehicle with Buy It Now. (35 cents per mile for additional miles as shown in MapQuest.com from zip code 20001 to your address.) That is still the same rate as when I started on Ebay 16 years ago.  Remember, the Buy It Now option disappears once the reserve price is met. The Buy It Now price is $6,295.  AUCTION ENDS: 10:00pm sharp, EASTERN TIME Monday February 20th unless Buy It Now is used.
