Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a very cool old Tow truck , 1948 Chevy COE , ( cab over engine ) one and a half ton truck , with operational tow hook , This truck runs and drives good , and stops as it should , the winch is operational , the clutch is on the Driver's side running board , and the shift handles are inside the bed , for in/out, fast slow , , there is only cable on the center drum , and it works well with the sling. This being an old survivor truck , don't expect it to be perfect , I have had this for a few years , and driven it to shows , but only during the day , I think I had the lights on , and one headlight was on , I don't know about the taillights . But it would not take much to wire up a complete system , The body is very solid , the cab corners are the best I have seen on a survivor , with no rust through , the fenders are solid , too , with their share of scratches , and other blemishes , but easily workable . The hood ornament/badge is broken , as are some of the window glass , the important 'corner windows are good though , and the rest is flat glass and can be cut . the tires hold air and are round , but need to be replaced soon . but , they have been holding air for the last three years , and get it around every time I need to move it . The step on the driver's side entry are in great shape , but , the top step on the passenger side has been repaired with a plate , and is also easily repairable , the seat is in good shape , just very faded , I have extra gauges , as I don't remember which work , , the truck has been converted to 12 volt , and charges like it should , I have parked it for six months , outside , and it starts right up , and fires on all cylinders fine , and does not smoke at all ( I say easily repairable , but, I am just a mechanic , but , I can duplicate body panels , with body lines , ( just made the rear quarter body corner on a 30 Model A ford Briggs body ) I even do professional stainless trim restoration . What I am getting at is , I have had "so called" professional body men at my place , and they tell me their skillset says the tiny dings in , say, a door skin , call for a new door skin , then I tell them that they are not much of a body man ,if they can't repair a dent, and I proceeded to "metal finish" said door , ( metal finish is , no bondo) but , hey , I am just a mechanic )) there are a few dings in the grille , and a KILLER push bar / bumper , the bed has the old , square dot , diamond plate on the corners , and is metal covered wood on the large flat portions of the front and sides. The truck is powered by , what I believe is a 270 Gimmy , inline six , It has the "updraft " carburetor that works well , the truck actually rides pretty smooth , considering the huge stacks of leaf springs You could jump in this truck and drive it anywhere , as long as you are not in a hurry , and remember to pump the brakes when you need to stop . Just a great old truck to drive , and show , as is . or a super solid base to restore . If you are looking for a perfect show truck , with a paint job that has hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the body and paint, look elsewhere , and pay $60,000 plus , but if you want a drivable survivor , with 68 years into the paint and body , for this perfect patina , thank you for your time , and thanx for looking in Joe's Garage , please feel free to look at my 100% positive feedback and about me , Know who you are dealing with ! ! also feel free to look at my yard , and projects and even a video or two on my Facebook pages , Joe Rooney , Billings, Montana , or Joe's Garage , Montana . My yard, and some friend's cars, just got a 20 page spread in the new issue of Renegade magazine , And This COE tow truck is in there , too , so it is already a celebrity
