RE-LISTING Truck: A gentleman from Wisconsin was the high bidder but he was unable to complete the sale timely. As stated in the listing a $500 deposit is due immediately and balance/transfer due within 7 days. On the 7th day I had no deposit and no plan for sale completion. Let me expound on the truck's condition. I have bought and sold these trucks for over 20 years. I have even rebuilt 1.6 liter diesel engines down to the crank. Now days I have no time. Just paid an ace VW mechanic (Dan G.- technically trained by Air Force as a non-jet mechanic whom I just learned was actually employed by Star Volkswagen of Durham within 3 days of leaving the Air Force) to rebuild the engine down to the crank with less than a 100 miles since completion. Dan is 65+ and has forgotten more about VW diesel engines than most will ever know. Some of the work just completed by Dan includes new brakes, new tires and synthetic fluid replacement in transmission. No dash cracks - interior in original condition. This is the most unmolested truck I have ever seen. I noticed several other trucks selling on Ebay located in NORTHERN STATES. A 35 year old truck does not survive the ravages of salt. ENOUGH SAID. The truck has just completed it's overhaul and still at the mechanics in Galax, Va.I was unable to detail the truck with a thorough cleaning like wiping down the door frame you see in pics. A little soap and water would do wonders cosmetically. This is a SOLID TRUCK. Three of my kids each had a VW diesel truck for to & from college. 45 plus MPG seating for two and truck bed, PERFECT. Kids have moved on and my wife says she will know true happiness if we can reduce to 1 VW truck in the yard. This truck was my final addition in 2011, kids never drove this one. It is by far the best original condition truck I have ever seen. All original paint - no dents - no bondo - no rust. Rockers, floorboards and shock towers...perfect. Dash has no cracks. All gauges work - even the clock. I and my mechanic have driven less than 500 miles since purchase. I have lots of paperwork over the 35 years showing mileage and registration always in Durham, NC. See pic of original owner's manual and warranty and maintenance books.Well below the snow belt states and three hours from the sea water coast. Purchased NEW at Star Volkswagen of Durham, NC on 5-19-81. On 10-15-85 had 52,032 miles, On 12-15-93 had 69,921 miles. On 5-15-99 was registered to C&C Automotive. On 5-19-2005 had 109,622 miles still registered to C&C Automotive repair shop. I registered it on 4-11-2011 with 120,661 miles. At the time I had 3 other Volkswagen Diesel trucks. FORD F250 Diesel truck, Volkswagen Passat wagon, 2 SAAB convertibles, Jetta diesel. Not to mention a Moto Guzzi motorcycle and 21 foot Century bowrider, had recently sold the motor home. Now you can see a little of my wife's pain.1981, 1.6 liter diesel, working odometer 120K.Here are a few unmentioned extras: dealership trim pack, sliding truck rear window and heavy duty truck bumper. All were dealership extras. I added a full set of alloy wheels all around, and 5th for the spare.NO A/C. Overdrive transmission with 5 speeds. This truck needs nothing. New tires. New brakes. Engine rebuilt all the way to the crankshaft. This is a 35 year-old truck. Sold as is where is. Truck has not been cleaned and detailed. I have over 300 transactions on Ebay and 100% satisfaction. I have sold 2 VW trucks over $6,000 each. Purchasers have been happy because I under-sold and over-delivered. Between original condition and the work I have had done this is the nicest truck I have ever sold. Ready to drive anywhere. Needs nothing. Call me, happy to answer any questions, my direct cell is (336)202-4202, or email through Ebay.I will start the bidding at $3,999. I have invested over 2/3 of that into truck and rebuild. If you buy a $3000 truck from the salt NORTH that has not been rebuilt it will not be too long before your paying $1500 to $2000 for the rebuild along with the constant maintenance issues associated with RUST - like fuel line replacement, rocker replacement, floorboard replacement, shock tower welding in new metal and of course paint bubbling with rusting constantly. A fresh paint job doesn't last and in less than a year the corrosion is back. Buy it now is $5,000. If you've ever wanted a solid truck to cherry-out, this is it. Southern truck from Durham, NC. First $5,000 drives it home, option goes away after first bid. You will not be able to buy a $1500 to $3000 truck and bring it up to this condition with a solid metal rust proof body and completely rebuilt engine for less than $5000.
