For sale: 1965 Mercedes 230 SL Convertible. This is a very solid car ready for restoration. This car was purchased by me in 1989. When I bought the car it was half-ass restored and I drove it trouble free until 1995 when it was parked in our dry barn. That means that the car has been stored in a barn for 21 years. The engine ran fine but needed a cold start unit as the car would start no problem cold but would be hard to start warm. The transmission is solid and was working fine when the car was parked. The tires on the car are new but they are cheap tires purchased so we could move the car around. I shot the photos after only cleaning the car with soap and water. I did NO detailing or polishing. I didn't even clean the engine. I want potential buyers to know exactly what they are buying. This car will need a full restoration but almost everything is there and solid. The steering wheel and turning signal lever are not original and the current radio is also not original. The original radio came with the car and it will be included in the sale. The soft top that is currently on the car is bad, however, I have a brand new, unused beige soft top that will also be included in the sale. When this car was on the road it had no idiosyncrasies or bad habits. It was a gas to drive. The chrome is all there but most of it will need re-chroming. When changing the tires I noticed that the brake mechanics look quite good. Please keep in mind that this was stored in a barn for 21 years so it pretty much smells like barn, for that reason alone it will need an interior. Two of the outer wheel cover rings are non-orignal and one of the hubcaps may not be restore-able. The odometer reads 64,896 miles but there are more than that on the car.
