Vehicle Detail
The whole story: my son fell in love with this blue Audi A6 and picked it up in March. Stupidly, I didn't insist he get it inspected before purchasing, and the previous owner left us with a bit of a mess. It's fully loaded - has the rare 4.2L V8, leather, dual electric seats, heated seats, sunroof, premium audio, quattro AWD, etc. Tiptronic transmission automatic or manual. Shifts great. It looks good - body is clean except a small ding on drivers side rear door. It runs very strong (see videos), air conditioner is cold and works great. It has the some significant defects though: We had both valve cover gaskets redone and the intake manifold gasket resealed, yet still leaks oil from somewhere. The crank position sensor and cam position sensor were replaced, but there's still a check engine light for "cam adjuster set limit reached" (codes 16395 and 16405). Also there's the intermittent smell of fuel. It did pass smog on 4/1/16 before the check engine light came on, and those are good for 90 days with the DMV. There is a bit of an RPM oscillation at between 1200 and 1500 RPMs when driving, which doesn't show up in neutral or when accelerating. Brakes work perfectly, but the emergency brake has been disabled and flashes on the instrument panel. The CV boot on the left is torn, and front suspension - tie rod/control arms/sway bar - needs a look according to the repair shop. Interior is in good condition and doesn't smell of smoke. There is some fading on the woodgrain piece around the shift lever.Long story short - the car is good to go right now, drives strong, and is currently registered until December 2016. Register before July 1 to avoid the smog requirement in California. But plan to put at least $2000 into repairs to make it all great again. I recommend an inspection prior to purchase if you're unsure. Videos at:https://youtu.be/xIkQ9RE7kxIhttps://youtu.be/3OLZ5T_IYDk
