I bought this as a parts donor for my VW bus. I was going to do a 5sp swap, but the 914 is original and 100% complete. I didn't want to break that up. Car only has 60k miles on it. It was parked in 1987 in one of the previous owners garages, at one of his rental properties. He went a few summers with out driving it, and when he went to take it for a spin one day, it failed to fire up. After that it sat another 13 years in the garage. Then in 2002 the rental property's garage he had it sitting in, the renter at the time wanted the garage included in the lease, so he pulled it out and into the back yard. It sat there, under a tree, until the recent. The floor pans are actually in decent shape. There no rot, but the rest of the body is questionable. It would make for a ambitious restoration car or a great parts donor. The 1.7 is in clean looking condition and all the fuel injection componets are there. The seats are in good condition orginal condition as well as the rest of the interior, minus the dash and steering wheel. They have seen better days. Overall this would be a fun little car to put back on the road, or use it to put your rust free shell back in action? Personally I would keep it and restore it. The air-cooled Porsche scene is rapidly on the rise and this is a investment that simply refuses to depriciate any longer. I hope to see this classic make its way into loving hands.
