Vehicle Detail
I am offering a 1972 BMW R75/5 which is titled as a 1973. As Marvin at Holt BMW (they are right down the road) and I guess, it was a late 1972 production model sold when the 1973's were out. It is a short wheel base and has no stripes on the tank, both indicating 1972. It only has 33,000 miles on it and it's numbers matching (frame and motor - sadly head tag is missing but they are available). I bought it because a BMW friend I trust told me it had run last year and sounded good. After a battery charge and some carb work it started right up. It has new floats, carb intake rubbers, plugs, valve adjustment and all fresh fluids. I've put a few miles on it and it starts, idles, shifts and runs very nicely. It pulls very strong but I've only had it up to about 80. This bike would make an easy restoration candidate or could be a super cafe project. I bought some parts and was going to at least semi restore it but started thinking about all the cafe racers I've been seeing so decided to leave that for the next owner to decide. Accordingly you will get some nice extra parts with this bike: pair of excellent original fenders, not perfect but close, new correct seat cover with fluting as original, low bars, excellent fender brace, original aluminum seat trim that could be polished up. The seat that was on it has a good pan but kind of ugly overstuffed top so a German cafe seat I bought over 25 years ago is pictured sitting on the bike because it looked cooler (needs some kind of base and reupholstery), cut down front fender also pictured on the bike, and a couple of extra parts such as the fender that was on it that needs work, couple of decent but not pretty headers, new intake tubes in box and probably more stuff I forgot. The exhaust on it is hideous but functional so I left it so you could hear and drive the bike. The castings and rims are nice on it and will clean or polish up but the spokes are rusty. The center stand functions but the tang is broken off. Nothing leaks. The tank is actually pretty nice, with a couple of shallow dents on top which I think could be popped out by one of those dent wizard guys, then painted which would give you the main body work. Tank chrome panels are nice but not perfect. It is missing the chrome side covers, tool kit, red rear reflectors and air pump. All the lights seem to work but horn and flashers are not. The speedo/odometer worked perfectly but the tach needle is broken and not moving. It actually has a bit less than 33,000 miles but previous owner who never had it on the road, guessed at the registrar, so clear good title says 33,000. So there you have it. Good solid low mileage bike, cosmetically challenged with some nice goodies. You decide where to take it and sell the extras. I have a large garage and can store it until you can get it once it's paid for. I've sold a few bikes online and have never had a complaint because I tell people all I know about them. Thanks for looking. Happy bidding!
