Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE 1957 Triumph Tiger Cub T20C "Competition" Thank you for taking a look at this vintage numbers matching (frame/engine) Triumph Tiger Cub from 1957. We picked-up this bike locally from a gentleman that had done a lot of work on her but lost interest after a few years of her sitting in the garage. Here is the story based on what was shared with us: The bike was purchased used in the UK by a US Air Force (USAF) pilot stationed there for joint training exercises with the Royal Air Force. The pilot was able to ship the bike back to Patrick USAF base here in Florida. The bike basically sat in a garage since the 1960’s. The USAF pilot’s son acquired the bike and sold it to the gentleman whom we purchased it from. The gentleman we purchased the bike from is a retired Rolls Royce Aircraft engine technician from the UK and a Triumph enthusiast having rebuilt and raced Triumph motorcycles for many years here in the US. He had done a light “competition” styled restoration on the bike a few years back which included a full top-end engine rebuild (honed cylinder, new piston/rings), new gaskets/bushings, several new transmission components (new gears as the old ones where given to us with the bike), new chain & sprockets, new oil lines, new oil tank and probably many more parts/work not mentioned. All of new parts were ordered from UK suppliers specializing in Tiger Cub parts. In addition, he installed a new Mikuni carburetor/manifold as recommended by one of the Tiger Cub parts suppliers to replace the original Amal carb. When we acquired the bike, the motor had not been run since the rebuild. So, all we did was install/set the distributor, confirmed oil was pumping back to the oil tank/top of the engine then got her fired-up, running and going down the road. She still needs to be fully broken in as we only put a few miles on her. We did fabricate a simple competition styled seat pan and cut-out some 1” closed cell seat foam – the seat pan now just needs to be covered. She does leak some oil, the clutch looks original and should be replaced – it slips enough where the bike cannot consistently be kick-started (which is why we bump/push started it for the videos), the tires (Dunlop Trials Universal, made in England) appear to be quite old with some cracking but they do hold air, the rims have rust with flaking chrome in certain areas, the left fork seal is leaking and there is a repair on the lower portion of the rear fender (see photo on website). The inside of the gas tank has a little surface rust but it is surprisingly nice considering the age of the tank - note the small dent on the upper right side of the tank along with a few rough spots which can be seen in the photos. We are including some spare parts/gaskets and an original Triumph Tiger Cub Instruction Manual No. 6 from 1958 (see photos). The number on the engine is T20C 29930 and is the same as the number on the frame/neck (29930). As you can see, the Tiger Cub still needs some finishing work and TLC but has the potential of being a really nice/vintage trials bike. We just do not have the time to invest in her at the moment and would rather see her get in to he hands of someone looking specifically for a Tiger Cub project with the right bones and already well on her way! Some more photos and videos can be seen on our website at: http://barebonerides.com/1957-triumph-tiger-cub-competition.html
We recommend this bike go to someone who is familiar with these vintage Triumph Tiger Cubs and have a set of Whitworth tools and know where to get Whitworth standard hardware. Please note that we do not have a title for this bike - we purchased her from the previous owner who gave us a Bill of Sale. We realize that the list above says "clear" for title status but, Ebay does not have a "no title" option and the other Ebay choices for title status would make even less sense ... sorry for the confusion. SHIPPING: Please note that the buyer will be responsible for ALL shipping requirements/responsibilities from Merritt Island, Florida (zip code 32952). We will gladly help coordinate pick-up at our shop with the Buyer’s shipper.
