Salvage Title
The meaning of the term salvage has changed drastically over the last 10 years. It used to mean that the car was totaled, where repairs cost more than 80% of the value of the car. Today a “salvage” car may never have been in an accident, like a theft recovery vehicle. More often an insurance company will put a salvage title on a car to limit their liability. They are in the business of risk management.
Aren’t insurance companies losing a lot of money doing this? No. For several reasons. First is the internet. Salvage car auctions industry now has over 200 auction in the US. The bigger ones auction off hundreds of cars every week in 50 to 100 different cities. With the Internet, people from all over the world bid on these cars. Because the bidding is competitive insurance companies now get very good money for their salvage title cars and trucks.
The second reason insurance companies send even slightly damaged cars to salvage auction is that body shop repairs/costs have gone through the roof. Labor, insurance, parts, paint and environmental expenses are growing at unbelievable rates. Newer high tech cars are just too expensive to repair. A car may be totaled with very minor damage as a result. Many repair estimates will double or triple as the job proceeds, because of unseen damage to the car. Once the job is started the insurance company is obliged to pay for finishing the job. After that they still have the liability for that repaired vehicle. Hence it has become very common for insurance companies to send the vehicles to salvage auctions and be done with it.
I bought this car after talking to the previous owner. The owner that hit the right front fender causing the car to be sold to the salvage auction. I asked him if it was a good car before the fender issue. He replied “Yes, in fact I tried to buy the car from the insurance company but the company will only send them to auction”. After talking to him I bought the car for myself. It was a beautiful car so after fixing the fender I pretty change made new all the systems of the car. Until recently I owned an Independent Porsche Repair facility so the repairs have been done correctly and the car fastidiously maintained ever since. Some of the new items? New forged wheels, windshield, rotors, pads, brake lines, transmission seals, ABS unit, tires, etc etc. I’ve been driving it for nearly 2 years as my daily driver with no issues. I’m 72 years old and decided to sell this great car in order to buy a new Turbo Porsche.

I am a 70 year old retired dentist and obtained a dealers license as a hobby.
I am licensed and bonded and have a perfect 100 on eBay
I am the smallest car dealer in the country. I love air cooled Porsche cars and have owned and driven them for 47 years. I know where to look for rust bugs and seek out dry Southwest cars. I can and will assist in shipping this auto nationally or internationally. If I see the occasional salvage car that has very minor damage I will offer that for sale if I would drive it myself.
This auction is a legally binding contract to buy this vehicle. All vehicles are sold as-is unless otherwise specified. I have done my best to accurately describe this vehicle. It is up to the buyer to come see and further inspect the car before the end of the auction.-->
