Vehicle Detail

So, I was at an old domestic car junkyard in Monroe, Georgia last week looking for a couple trim pieces for Speedwell's shop truck. I'm bouncing around in a mostly gone Chrysler minivan driven by Andrew, the junkyard manager's amiable, albeit toothless and chunky assistant, looking for said parts when my eye caught the unmistakable shape of an Alfa Giulia's nose through the boughs of a fallen pine tree. I had Andrew stop the car. I got out and worked my way through the thorn bushes and into a pine forest. I pushed some branches out of the way and looked down. Low and behold, it was a Giulia, and she sadly looked up at me as though I were the first human she had seen in 20 years. I asked her how in the heck she had come to such a place, mired in woods between a 60's Rambler and a 1972 Grand Prix. Of course she did not answer, she just looked up at me. I circled around behind, noting her engine and gearbox were gone, along with most of her floor (and most of everything else for that matter). Then I spied the Washington State license plate. I told her that there are not many places she could be so far from home and still be in the United States. The silence was deafening. Well, there was no way I was going to leave her there. After sternly convincing the briers and pines to give her up, she came home with me. I had no illusions of my wife thinking that I needed another project or parts car. My hopes instead, as I explained to her, are that by putting whats left of the little Giulia on Ebay, I could find an owner for her that could still use what parts are left on her, or better yet, is crazy enough to restore her. I just couldn't leave this car out there in that forest.
