As you can see in the pictures it is his pride and joy and in incredible shape! Careful not to let this 1978, well cared for, bus get away. They are hard to find in this Beautiful condition! My friend always overdoes everything and this is no exception, he spared no expense on this ONE-OF-A-KIND Bus. This bus is concert and camp ready and cruises very nice. It still retains its ORIGINAL POP Top with a bed in it and the original canvas sides are all in good shape with a few small tears, the bug screens on the sides have some holes but that's a pretty easy fix if you want to fix them. I have read that the "Riviera" is the most desirable in the Campmobile line and I can see why. This Campmobile was bought new in Alaska and came with the VW factory gas heater option, and it works, even the timer option. It made it's way to southern California and has spent its life Garaged there. It has all new Custom Wood cabinets with Surf and TIKI accents. What a value it is at the reserve price which is set very low! Take a look at the lines on this beauty, what an amazing looking Bus. This BEAUTY is one nice driving rig and is sound and in AWESOME shape We got a wild hair and drove it from Idaho to the "Woodies on the Warf" show in Santa Cruz , CA in June and then took it to my friend’s in Tracy CA. It drives on the Freeway at 65 to 70 MPH with no problems, and doses well up hills with the 2.0 injected motor. If you can make it to Tracy CA in the next ten days please come look at and drive this Beauty for yourself. You won't be disappointed! This Volkswagen Riviera Campmobile has the original 2.0 Liter type 4 air-cooled - four cylinder motor in it and it is running well! It has passed CA smog before it was brought to Idaho. The 1978 2.0L now featured hydraulic valve lifters, eliminating the need to periodically adjust the valve clearances as on earlier models. The 1975 and later U.S. model years received Bosch L-Jetrinicelectronic fuel injection as standard equipment; 1978 was the first year for electronic ignition, utilizing a hall effect sensor and digital controller, eliminating maintenance-requiring contact-breaker points. As with all Transporter engines, the focus in development was not on power, but on low-end torque. The Type 4 engines were considered the most robust and durable of all the air-cooled engines. The engine is backed by a smooth four speed transmission / transaxle. The BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM WOOD interior is NEW and in great condition including NICE ORIGINAL re-covered Light brown basket-weave bucket seats up front, NICE ORIGINAL Black dash, NICE ORIGINAL Black Carpet floor mat up front, NICE ORIGINAL White headliner, NICE ORIGINAL door panels with beautiful Kona Longboard Tap handle door pulls (original door pull come with it), NICE ORIGINAL gauge cluster(All working), NICE custom center padded armrest and console with inside storage, a Rolling Rock cooler and wood cup holders front and back built in. The ORIGINAL rear / Camper part of the interior is also in GREAT condition including a rear 13" swivel monitor, BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM MADE table, VERY NICE Original re-covered Light brown basket-weave rear seat / bed, NICE ORIGINAL re-covered Light brown basket-weave upper bed in Pop-top, lots of factory style storage areas, sliding side windows with bug screens for ventilation, NICE ORIGINAL Formica roof paneling and Good sliding cloth curtains throughout. This Classic VW is nicely equipped including an awesome Power Acoustik Digital AM FM stereo radio / CD player / MP3 player input / USB / BLUETOOTH / DVD player with additional built-in rear 13" display with swivel base, it has two speakers mounted in doors up front and two Tiki head speakers mounted in back and Sub Amp with 2 Pioneer 12' Sub Woofers mounted under rear bench and 2 6" X 9" 3-way Pioneer speakers in rear deck panel at back hatch and it sounds Amazing. With the New Dual Batteries it has a long play time. It has working turn signals so it is legal in all the states, good heater and defroster, two 110 volt household electrical plug ins, Custom Beverage / Storage cabinet with AC outlet, Lots of under seat storage and custom wine/beverage rack built into the rear seat back, original day / night rear view mirror, factory 3-point seat belts up front and factory dual chrome exterior mirrors. This VW Transporter is a great running and good looking Bus for sure. It drives smooth and straight and does not wonder. WHAT A PLEASURE TO DRIVE. All of the light lenses and reflectors are still bright, clear and in good condition even the factory rubber weather-stripping is still in good condition. These vehicles have an appreciative group of owners, any of which would be pleased to own this one. The suspension and drive train seem to be in good working order as well as the electrical system. This Classic Volkswagen Transporter Riviera Campmobile Bus is a great investment opportunity and it is priced right! It is in good condition from top to bottom and from front to back. This is a BEAUTIFUL 1978 VW - "Riviera" - Campmobile Bus we bought from a friend of ours. As you can see in the pictures it is his pride and joy and in incredible shape! Careful not to let this 1978, well cared for, bus get away. They are hard to find in this Beautiful condition! My friend always overdoes everything and this is no exception, he spared no expense on this ONE-OF-A-KIND Bus. This bus is concert and camp ready and cruises very nice. It still retains its ORIGINAL POP Top with a bed in it and the original canvas sides are all in good shape with a few small tears, the bug screens on the sides have some holes but that's a pretty easy fix if you want to fix them. I have read that the "Riviera" is the most desirable in the Campmobile line and I can see why. This Campmobile was bought new in Alaska and came with the VW factory gas heater option, and it works, even the timer option. It made it's way to southern California and has spent its life Garaged there. It has all new Custom Wood cabinets with Surf and TIKI accents. What a value it is at the reserve price which is set very low! Take a look at the lines on this beauty, what an amazing looking Bus. This BEAUTY is one nice driving rig and is sound and in AWESOME shape We got a wild hair and drove it from Idaho to the "Woodies on the Warf" show in Santa Cruz , CA in June and then took it to my friend’s in Tracy CA. It drives on the Freeway at 65 to 70 MPH with no problems, and doses well up hills with the 2.0 injected motor. If you can make it to Tracy CA in the next ten days please come look at and drive this Beauty for yourself. You won't be disappointed!
This Volkswagen Riviera Campmobile has the original 2.0 Liter type 4 air-cooled - four cylinder motor in it and it is running well! It has passed CA smog before it was brought to Idaho. The 1978 2.0L now featured hydraulic valve lifters, eliminating the need to periodically adjust the valve clearances as on earlier models. The 1975 and later U.S. model years received Bosch L-Jetrinicelectronic fuel injection as standard equipment; 1978 was the first year for electronic ignition, utilizing a hall effect sensor and digital controller, eliminating maintenance-requiring contact-breaker points. As with all Transporter engines, the focus in development was not on power, but on low-end torque. The Type 4 engines were considered the most robust and durable of all the air-cooled engines.
The engine is backed by a smooth four speed transmission / transaxle.
