*******PLEASE NOTE******** The eBay provided Autocheck score on this car is BS! If you look at Autocheck's rating criteria the only things that are lowering the score on this car is that it has had 4 owners (explained below) and was in one small accident (explained below) and they dinged the score for a scuff on another car in a parking lot (also explained below). The much more comprehensive CARFAX report (which I will be happy to provide a copy of) notes that this vehicle has been taken care of and is worth *more* than Blue Book value...and they haven't even factored in the many thousands of dollars of preventitive fixes, upgrades, new tires, etc. I have put in...this car is in great shape!********************************* The VW Phaeton is an amazing car that was launched in 2004 as the highest end VW ever made. It had exacting design standards (the most famous one is that should be capable of being driven all day at 186 mph with an exterior temperature of 122 °F while maintaining the interior temperature at 72 °F!) and is considered by many to be a Bentley with a VW badge. Perfection comes with a price and some Phaetons sold for close to $100,000 when new. Unfortunately for the world, people weren’t ready for a 6 figure VW—even if it was built (and performed) like a Bentley. VW only sold ~2700 in the USA and by my best estimates I don’t think there are more than 25 in the state of Georgia right now. I bought this Phaeton 3 years ago and have only put about 24,000 miles on it since then. This beautiful 2004 Volkswagen Phaeton has great mechanicals and has been a Southern car its entire life. The car had owners in Florida and NC before it was purchased by a dealer in Georgia in 2008 who drove it as his personal car until I bought it in late 2012. This Phaeton is painted a beautiful Nocturne Aubergine (Burgundy) color that still glimmers in the sun and has a Tan Interior. It features the 5 passenger seating configuration with the front and rear seats having seat heaters, coolers, and massage settings. It has double paned windows so the interior is whisper quiet while driving. The adjustable air suspension lets you control ride height and comfort level but at any setting it rides like a dream. The 4.2L V8 puts out 335 hp and the 6-speed automatic gearbox in the Phaeton is good on gas and maintenance. The option list goes on and on. The car comes with original Owner's manuals, 2 keys, and all navigation discs. The Exterior is in 9/10 condition. Fewer problems than you would expect on an 11 year old car since it has been taken care of and garaged. The biggest issue would be a chip out of the passenger side mirror turn indicator but the signal works fine. A strip of chrome trim is missing from the drivers side door handle. A couple of barely noticeable dings and scratches. The wheels are in fair condition and have some scrapes. The tires have less than 5,000 miles on them. The car was in a minor front end collision about a year ago where the airbags did not even deploy. It was professionally fixed then and looks great. The reports list another ‘accident’ in 2013 but that was from my girlfriend barely kissing another car while backing out of a parking space and there wasn’t even a paint scratch on the Phaeton. The Interior is in 7/10 condition. The leather has aged well but the driver’s seat has a small tear in it. The glove box opener button has fallen off but you can still open it without a problem. The paint on the overhead sunroof controls is flaking. A little bit of the chrome on the cup holders is flaking. The Infotainment system works great. Overall the interior looks good and is a very comfortable place while driving or as a passenger. Mechanicals are in 10/10 condition. This is where I put in my money over the last 3 years. I replaced a number of expensive components that are prone to wear out so that you won’t have to. The only mechanical thing that I can think of that doesn’t work is the tire pressure monitor which is a known issue in almost all used Phaetons. No engine lights are illuminated. I have replaced: Front Brakes All Tires Front Air Suspension/ShocksMain HVAC Fan Timing Belt, Thermostat and Water Pump Primary Fuel Pump Parts of the Cooling System High-Intensity Headlights The Secondary Air-Flow System Used in Cold Starts It has been very gently driven since with many thousands of dollars of mechanical preventative maintenance/upgrades put in during that time I have owned it. This car has a decent number of miles on it but it was made to go a lot more. Don’t be fooled by lower millage Phaetons that haven’t had some of these systems replaced. As in any car that is 10 years old or more certain systems just start to break down over time so even if it has fewer miles, and hasn’t been maintained, you could be in for some expensive repairs. There are some Phaetons selling on eBay for low dollar values because they have not been taken care of (beware of cheap Phaetons)…this is not one of those cars. This is not a junk car so, please, no offers in amounts that junk Phaetons sell for. This is a very nice Phaeton that runs and drives as Volkswagen intended. This is my secondary car and I am in between jobs so, as much as it kills me to sell it, my loss is your gain.
