1963 Mercury Comet S-22 Convertible. Low miles. Restored! VIDEO. 1963 Mercury Comet S-22 Convertible Introduced in 1963 on a limited basis, only 5,757 Comet S-22 Convertibles were made. The S-22 features the English Ford/Dagenham 4-speed transmission with floor shifter. Some sources claim that only 121 of these 4-speed S-22's survive today (and even fewer with the 170 c.i. 6 cylinder engine.) It is indeed, a very rare package. Produced on June 18, 1963 and sold new in Portland, Oregon by Dick Niles Lincoln Mercury, this car has remained in Oregon for the past 52 years. It still wears the original Oregon license plate issued to the car when new. It was sparingly driven and the mileage showing today (47,300) is believed to be correct, although undocumented. The condition of the car is outstanding. NO RUST. Floor pans and trunk are solid, as is the undercarriage. Body is laser-straight with excellent panel fit throughout. It recently received new paint in correct Carnival Red color. New chromed bumpers. New windshield. New rubber door seals and window channels. New top and carpets. The remainder of the interior, including the dashboard, door panels and upholstery is ORIGINAL and in amazing condition - again reflecting the low mileage showing. Please see photos. Mechanically, this Comet is excellent. With the optional 170 cubic inch OHV straight 6 engine, generating 105 horsepower, it moves this 2,784 pound convertible right down the road. Beautifully detailed engine bay. It runs and drives great. Idles whisper quiet. Shifts smoothly. Brakes stop the car straight. Newer radial tires. Radiator cleaned and flushed.
