Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my family owned 1965 Ford Mustang fastback 2+2. We have owned this car for over sixteen years and has always been covered and stored in a garage. I found this car sitting in a field for sale in Maryland back in the late 90's. The car had been recently restored and painted and the interior was already redone. The paint still looks great but is starting to show some minor imperfections. The interior is holding up well but is not perfect. Since buying it, several modifications were made to tribute the classic Shelby muscle car. The car is an original A-code 289 car that came with a 3 speed manual transmission. The motor may be original but I can not guarantee matching numbers. When I bought it, it had a C-4 automatic that I changed over to a T-10 4 speed. The C-4 is included in the sale if buyer is interested. The motor was bored and rebuilt several years ago including solid lifters and a mild cam. I also replaced the leaking Holley carb with a new Edelbrock 600 4 barrel. Other modifications include: Tri-Y headers with Flowmaster 40's dual exhaust that exit the rear valance with Shelby style trumpets, GT style instrument cluster (1966), wood steering wheel, Shelby functional hood scoop, deep dish styled steel wheels with BF Goodrich matching tires, Shelby side pin stripes (painted) and GT fog/driving lights. This car starts right up and the motor is strong. The transmission shifts well however the synchronizers will need replaced at some point, it's starting to jump out of 3rd gear when you let off the gas. I replaced the stock 2:78 rear gears to a limited slip 3:25 so it's very quick on take off. It still has the original 4 drum brakes with new wheel cylinders. The car does pull to the right when driving. The steering linkage looks good but may need a front end alignment. It still has the original AM radio with an FM converter attached with one speaker in the dash. This is the 2+2 model which means there is a flat platform in the rear of the car that folds up and latches and becomes the two rear seats. We have driven this car less than 3000 miles since buying it. It has been driven to local car shows and parades. It looks great, runs good and turns a lot of heads. It is not perfect and is not a trailer queen but it is a good driver. We do not know the history of the restoration and what was done prior to us buying it however, this car is very straight and has very little rust. The floors look original and are not all cut up and patched. The only rust I have found is in the bottom of the doors and the corners of the hood. I was planning on repairing it but thought it would be better left alone and it has not gotten any worse over the years. There is some cracking in the hood where the hood scoop was installed. We are looking for a buyer who is interested in keeping the car and enjoying it as much as we have. We are not interested in selling to dealers or car flippers just looking to buy and make a profit. Therefore, the starting price is what it is. This car should be seen in person to really appreciate and can be driven by those with serious intentions. There is no warranty or guarantees with this 50 year old vehicle. We prefer to not ship this car but may negotiate with buyer paying all shipping fees including insurance. Please ask questions prior to bidding. I will reply within 24 hours. Cash is best but certified checks are accepted. Clear Pa. title in hand showing actual mileage of 25,555. Once again, this car is not perfect, it does need some items addressed but it is a driver. I have tried to be as honest and accurate with the description. If you'd like to see more detailed pictures, I will take the time to photograph and forward what is needed. We do not have to sell it and are willing to keep it and enjoy it for many more years. If it does not sell, we will be making some improvements including front disc brakes, power steering and rebuilding the transmission. You may see it next spring for sale again but with a higher price as these cars are getting harder to find especially in this condition. Car is for sale locally so auction may end early. Thank you for looking and good luck.
