Vehicle Detail

1911 Ford Model T Touring - Great History! LAU COLLECTION 1911 Ford Model T Touring Body number: 46263 Engine number: 46263 Assembled April 6, 1911, this is one of the last open-valve Model T's produced. Shipped on April 7, 1911 to the Gilbert Tilbury Ford dealership in McMinnville, Oregon, it was first sold on May 24, 1911 to a Mr. V.E. Hibbard of Carlton, Oregon. It has lived in Oregon for the past 104 years. Around 1950 this Ford was acquired by Russell Lewis of Portland. He performed a cosmetic restoration and had a new top and upholstery installed. In 1956, Mr. Lewis moved to California and before doing so, sold the Ford to noted collector, David Lau. Dave toured the car for the next 38 years, keeping it in show condition (receiving several awards over the years in local judging) as well as offering it as a parade car for local dignitaries and events. While the Lau collection grew over the years and many cars came and went, this "T" held a special significance to Dave and the family. Following Dave Lau's passing in 1994, his son, Fred, set out on a full concours restoration of his Dad's beloved T.  The original numbers-matching, open-valve engine was completely rebuilt, a new radiator was fabricated by The Brassworks, and new fenders were made by Rootlieb. Fred kept a large file of notes on this car and insisted that all parts be recreated exactly as Ford had done in 1911. In some instances this necessitated additional labor and cost, but Fred wanted this car to be done right in every detail. Over the next 20 years, Fred continued work on the car amongst his many other projects. His unexpected passing in April of 2015 stopped work on the car, which is very close to completion. The family now wants to pass this significant "T" along to an experienced collector who will complete the task. Photos show the current condition. The engine and drivetrain are complete and assembled, as is the body. The fenders will need to be painted and a new top and upholstery fabricated (the seat springs are included with the car, as well as newly fabricated wooden top bows.) All of the brass lamps, gauges and accessory items are included (please see photos) and are freshly restored awaiting installation. There may be some small parts needed of which we are unaware. But from our examination, most everything appear to be there and what is shown will be included. A competant restorer could most likely complete this car in a few week's time. All of the difficult work has been done. It is ready for finishing and final assembly. All of Fred Lau's notes, files, photos and history of the car will be included. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a significant, early Model T with a known history that has been owned by a family of respected Ford restorers and enthusiasts for nearly 60 years. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car, well below the cost of parts and labor that have been invested thus far. Please bid accordingly. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK! (Please note that we will be offering other Model T's from the Lau Collection on eBay in the following weeks, including the legendary 1908 T "#220". In addition, a sale of the remaining Lau collection of THOUSANDS of early Ford items including rare parts, memorabilia, dealer signs, factory literature, KRW tools, vintage toys and much more will be held at the Lau Garage in Portland, Oregon on October 24-25, 2015. This is an event not to be missed by Ford collectors. Message us for details by using the "Ask Seller a Question" tab, at the top right of this page.) We gladly sell to buyers WORLDWIDE.
