1970 Monte Carlo SS 454 Rare LS5 Z20 bucket seat console ac BUILD SHEET PROTECTO PLATE I am selling my 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo very low productionSport Coupe142,153SS 454 Package3,823Total Monte Carlo Production 145,976 I have tried to verify as much as I could on this car, i have figured out that the motor is a 454 but is casting 3999289 which appears to be a block from 1972 or later, but I cant tell if it is a CE block (factory replacement) or not. So I am going to assume that it may not be. I cant read the pad on pass front , but it is the wide pad which indicates it is the older block rather than the newer blocks that had the small pad. From all of the research I found, looking for the tell tale signs including the build sheet that I have, I looked for the air ride parts that was only available on SS454 cars and found that the compressor was gone from the engine compartment but the valves etc were still mounted in the back above the rear end for the air shocks!!! Good news because only the SS454's had air ride. The car runs good and shifts and brakes all as it should , i would still call this a definite PROJECT car, but it runs and drives so you can drive it while you restore it if you wanted to. The body does show some small amounts of rust in the lower rear fenders and under the vinyl top, the floors happen to be in very good shape See pics for best description on all details mentioned I did not find the 454 ss badging but it is available here on ebay. car has halo style vinyl top on it that is in decent condition.
