I purchased this California desert car and moved it to Chicago area in 2005. The car still shows no signs of rust on body panels. The body is by no means perfect, but as you can see, this is a nice looking car in a rare color seldom seen in a police vehicle. The hood was slightly damaged and the SS grill was cracked from a truck backing into the car in a parking lot. I will include the original chrome caprice grill which has no damage. There are various paint chips, nicks and scratches and a few small dents, but none of these detract from the overall attractive appearance. The clear covering on the chrome side and bumper moldings is peeling (due to the California desert sun); I chose to leave it alone, but it can probably been removed and wouldn't be as noticeable (see photos). It has always been a non-smoker car. The engine is powerful, smooth and quiet; no ticking or lifter noise. The handling is crisp and tight. It performs extremely well and will not disappoint. No smoke from the tail pipes and uses no oil. I religiously changed the oil using only Mobil One full synthetic oil every 3,000 miles. The police package includes an engine oil cooler and external transmission cooler. Transmission was rebuilt by a performance specialist in 2012 and the front end steering parts and bushings, alternator and brakes replaced in 2013. Other recent repairs include water pump, radiator, heater core, axle bearings, seals, rear end lube (3:08), belts, battery. It still has the original stainless steel exhaust system with resonators; the connection flanges were replaced. Interior is also in extremely nice condition: no rips, tears or snags in the cloth seats; there is one worn spot in the carpet where your left foot rests. The dashboard does not have the usual holes from police equipment as this was an investigator's car; it does have some cracks due to exposure to the hot desert sun; a tailored dash mat is included (it is not glued down) and covers this condition. The rear carpet shelf was just replaced due to damage from sun exposure--it is grey (Impala SS) as I could not find a red one, but it looks good. There is a crack in the left door panel (see photos). Left rear window needs some help going up as the roller guide is broken. Rear speakers are present, but are not hooked up due to police requirements. I never attempted to connect them so cannot attest to their condition. There is an electric trunk release, but the gear teeth have worn, so it no longer functions and you must use the key to access trunk. There is one small antenna base mounted on the trunk. There are no holes for spot lights or any other antennas. Tires are approaching the end of their usable tread life and are due for replacement. Note the option codes on the trunk lid - I'm not sure what all of them are. But, someone pointed out to me one of the special police options allows you to open the locked driver's door simply by pulling the release handle--it automatically unlocks only the driver's door. I have owned and enjoyed this car for ten years. It is driven almost daily. My wife drove it for the first five years and loved it, and then turned to over to me when she wanted something newer.
