Vehicle Detail
OVERVIEW: The Nash Quad achieved the reputation of being the best four-wheel drive truck produced in America. Formed in 1916, Nash Motors became the largest producer of four-wheel drives and was the leading producer of military trucks by the end of WWI. The Nash-Quad saw extensive service during The Great War. It was very versatile and could drive at a break-neck maximum speed of 14 mph. and brake and steer on all four wheels. Nearly 12,000 were produced during the war years; more than any other truck of its era. After the war ended, surplus Quads were used as heavy work trucks in fields such as construction, mining and logging. Production fell considerably in post war years and only a few hundred were made after that. Production ceased in 1921. Estimates are that there are only about 40 Nash-Quads still in existence, and only a few that run and drive. Rarely is one found with cab intact, in fact, even most restored ones are without a cab. This particular Model 4017 was acquired by in Twin Falls, Idaho. It spent its working life in the mining industry hauling ore. Previously owned by two elderly brothers then in their 80’s, it was frequently used in parades as it was still in running and drivable condition. The truck remains in complete, original and unmolested condition as acquired from them. It is currently owned by a private collector of early heavy trucks and is on display in a pioneer village museum. It is missing its fan belt, and during his ownership he has not made any attempts to run it, but is confident that it would run again. SUMMARY: If you are a historical WWI enthusiast, or a fan of early transportation and hauling, then this is your opportunity to acquire a rare original and unmolested example. Rarely do they surface or come available, especially in original unrestored, and complete condition. Now that he is winding down his restoration activities and has no further plans for this Nash Quad, the owner has decided to make this historical workhorse available with a reasonable reserve.
