Vehicle Detail
Triumph TR3A, 1958 An early example in very good overall condition A nice, clean solid excellent running near sixty year old classic. ‘Underneath’ looks clean (see photos), body seems to be in good condition….paint is older and definitely ‘driver quality’ but, for normal road use, why pretend to be driving a Pebble Beach concours car? Strong engine, quiet valves, 155-160 psi compression in every cylinder, 75 psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke, clutch doesn’t chatter or slip, transmission shifts nicely and has good synchromesh action, front disc brakes work well. Wiring and electrics look and work properly. Engine bay is the same color as the exterior and is nice and clean. Just replaced the (leaking) water pump and the engine runs nicely and cool. Original water temperature gauge was just rebuilt, all original gauges work, same with heater, wipers, horn, lights, etc. Exhaust sounds good, tracks nicely and the ride is far better than most TRs I have ever driven. Top appears to be new, tonneau in good condition as are seats, panels, carpets, and dashboard. Has all new wire wheel hubs, wheels seem to be in good condition and yes, has a wire wheel spare wheel. Also has the fairly rare optional back seat certainly suitable for children giving this car a genuine 2+2 use. In the trunk is a jack, knock off hammer, and the original engine crank. Want a better TR3A? Add $3,000 for a nice base coat/clear coat repaint in this or any other color (including painting the engine bay, under the hood, trunk, and door jambs. BRG? Black? Bright Red? Old English White? All lovely. These cars are quick with 110 mph performance. They had disc brake nearly ten years before Porsche, wonderful entertainment with the cut down doors and the quick-removal windshield (if you wish to blast around the neighborhood with just two racing screens on the cowl). All in all, a wonderful fair weather car with heater and full weather equipment for wet of cold day driving.
